Sigh, still don't get the anger over auto headlights. They have a manual off and on option if you like. The nox has it, and mom leaves it on auto all the time. My dad does on his cruze too.

I have my headlights on at all times, day or night, so it's a moot point for me.

My mom had cataracts a few years back, and before it got to the point where driving got too dangerous, the headlights of other cars make them far more visible. Headlights and taillights make you more visible. I personally think it's just common sense to use them all the time, there isn't really a reason not to. Beyond that you "may" have to replace them a little sooner.

I agree. And like I said earlier, its programmed to be so conservatively safe that if there's ever any doubt if they should be on or not, they're already on.

This is the system the other manufacturers should copy.

My previous Buick had DRLs that were on all the time. It had the same bulbs from 2001 to 2012 when I got rid of it. Granted they were a bit dim, but I didn't want to replace them just because they had gone so long.

People who complain about motorcycles always using high beams, for one, visibility yes makes them more visible. Also, have you ever seen a motorcycle low beams? They are USELESS. As in, USELESS. Car DRL illuminate better than a motorcycle low beam. And Motorcycle High Beams are only about as good as low beams on a normal car.

I learned the same thing, way back in driver's ed., and again when I had to take the European driver's exam when I was in the Army. Parking lights are for parking in a dangerous position (curve, no light or in areas designated by signage) and not for driving. I wonder if it is a state-by-state thing or if it's an archaic requirement, since I've never seen signage requiring them.

Not all cars have this ability. The headlights on my '04 Corolla cannot be turned off...they are on all the time...I had a '99 Corolla that was the same way...

I have no problems with visability at night using my low beam. If you are, then your headlight probably needs to be aimed...I run my high beam during the day so other drivers can see me better...if I try to run my high beam at night I constantly have oncoming traffic flashing me their brights...

Almost all later model cars turn on the dash lights when you open the door to enter the vehicle. How else can they dazzle you and make you feel that your car is now too old and needs an upgrade?

Motorcycles do not bother me much but the pulsating headlight that some use sure is irritating.

Motorcycle headlights are not created equal. Some are very effective on low-beam, and even more so on high-beam.

In some cars, it does. As long as I have the headlight switch in "auto", the Jeep does it. I've noticed a lot of cars with DRLs don't though, as most places that require lights with wipers only require headlights, not full lights.

Those pulsating motorcycle lights or those with HIDs are quite annoying. I can't say I blame them though. I would certainly never ride a motorcycle with all of the idiots on the road.

headlight modulators don't bother me too much in the day.

I believe that DOT regulations require the system to self defeat at night, but a couple of months ago I had a motorcyclist right on my bumper on the freeway with his headlight modulator still on well after dark.

I accelerated, he accelerated. I changed lanes, he followed. I adjusted both side mirrors to dazzle him with his own modulator, he was unfazed. So I lifted off and slowed down to probably 50 mph on the freeway before he passed....right onto the tail of another car. Hope that guy had a self dimming mirror or something.

I find the ones who drive with the secondary set of driver/fog lights quite annoying at night. They will replace the bulbs with brighter ones then just leave them on with their low beams.

I have the antidote though with 55w fog and 55w hi beam HIDs. But when you flash them they get confused as they do not have their hi beams on. They are too slow to realize it is their driving/fog lights that are the problem.

My fogs have been rewired and re-aimed to only be on with the hi beams. Some other jerks put the HIDs in the fog lights and then drive around like that. Even the 35ew HIDs in the fogs are too bright for oncoming traffic.

So now your fog lights are useless for fog conditions. You can't run hi-beams in the fog because it reflects back at you yet that's what you have to do to get fog lights since you rewired them? That sounds rather strange to me. As long as factory fog/driving lights are not messed with..they are fine and not in any way blinding to other drivers.
