I simply hate it when people drive without their lights on during evening hours or when the weather is bad.
Today, coming from work, the snow storm started to roll in so the visibility was limited. The traffic was inching slowly along and I couldn't help but notice the lack of tail lights, so I took a quick pic.
Not even one car in the picture had its lights on. The CRV was simply changing lanes and that's the left indicator signal you see. In that group of cars there were maybe three more, beside me, with their lights on.

This picture clearly shows how incompetent and ignorant the majority of drivers out there are. This is a common site for me, whether it raining, snowing, foggy, it doesn't matter, people are too stupid to turn on their lights.

Sorry, but I had to vent a bit.

In CA you are supposed to have your headlights on whenever conditions warrant wiper usage, of course you also aren't supposed to talk on a cell phone and drive. My Volvo automatically turns the headlights on whenever the car is on. I also use the rear fog lamp whenever it is cloudy, or I am driving into the sun, can't tell you how many times I get told I have a bulb out when that is on.

I think the cheapies are trying to save their headlight/stalk switch from excess wear or they are hoping their headlight bulbs will last forever.Extreme hypermilers may believe that excess current demand on the alternator will kill their MPGs..

I used to own an Audi, I once got pulled over because of my rear fog light during a snow storm. I had to explain to the officer what it was and why I had it on.

Most people here don't turn on their lights until an hour or two after sundown. They flash their lights at me when mine are on, which is day and night on my Grand Cherokee, but only after 5:30 or so in the other cars.

Both my wife and I have been stopped by cops for using headlights before dark. They say it is distracting.

The rear fog lights are pretty unique. I've never actually used mine.

This bugs me to no end also. I almost switched lanes into a guy driving in the dark in a dark car in the rain with no lights this morning.

In solid traffic that's just inching along, considerate drivers will turn their headlamps off, since this saves the driver in front of them from having to put up with the glare of headlights in his mirrors.
No need for taillamps on except for the cars at the end of the jam, and the use of the parking light position will provide for this without the use of the headlamps.
Two sides to every tale.

Illinois law now is that headlights must be on 1/2 hour before sunset, and on until 1/2 hour after sunrise.
Also, when inclement weather is imminent or occurring.

Motorcycles always have to have their headlights on. [Of course they always have their brights lights on - really inconsiderate and annoying]

Many cops don't abide by these laws, however. Same for turn signals, etc..

And you were using a hand-held communications device while driving in Ontario. You're aware that with this post you are admitting to the commission of an illegal act?

How incompetent and ignorant.

When we have fog, sometimes heavy, in the morning and nobody turns on their light even when they could not see more than 30-50 ft ahead of them. I turn on headlight when I can not see more than 500-1000 ft ahead of me.

That's the same as where I am.

Up till about 10-years ago, you had to have your lights on from a half-hour AFTER sunset to a half-hour BEFORE sunrise, then they changed it to what you describe.

Our law makes no mention of weather. Here, it's perfectly legal to drive around with your headlights off in rain and snow. And so I do, if I determine that visibility is not an issue.

You mean that's a CHOICE? I thought those blinding brights were the default setting. Egad.

If visibility is getting poor, I simply turn on the lights but leave the headlights off, unless its really getting dark. That's just me though.

Maybe it was dash mounted, like thousands of smartphones and GPS devices.

I always turn the headlights one when driving any car that's grey, green, or blue regardless of lighting or weather conditions. It seems some people don't see cars in these colors and medium to medium-dark green cars are completely invisible to many drivers even on a clear sunny day.

What also bothers me is no TAILLIGHTS. People have DRLs and the interior is always lit up - then they dont realize that the tail lights aren't on.

do the same on my MB. Front and back fogs are on and it turms on parking lights. Bimmer has adaptive ligths, so it turns it on automatically even when it gets cloudy.
