1. Eat only when your stomach is growling. Sounds simple enough, but think about it. Do you really eat only when you're hungry?

2. Drink a lot of water or tea half an hour before your meals. It will fill you up a little and extra fluid is good for you anyway.

3. Eat half of what you are used to eating.

4. Eat slowly. Give your stomach time to tell your brain the tank is full. "Fast food" is the greatest culinary atrocity. Speed kills.

5. Take vitamin and mineral supplements that compliment your particular diet.

6. Make smart food choices and keep in mind we are omnivores.

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, I don't even pretend to be one on TV.

see, when i read the title of this post i was thinking:

brats, beer, chili, cheese, pretzels and peanuts.

that's just me.

Exactly, always remember you are what you eat. I'm a tofu and potato-eating chicken.

Oh yeah, the concentrated evil, as Father Hubertus used to call it.

Buy a dinner set with smaller plates.

Amazing how effective that can be.

It doesn't seem to work at the casino buffet in Las Vegas. People just come back for more. They're not fooled by small plates.

... I still know an optical illusion when I see one. ;-)

Seriously, I haven't had a weight problem in years. Now, where are those donuts?
