I find this incredibly wasteful

That's how WD gets his popularity. I think he went big when he jumped a TRX (or was it a raptor?) and the suspension broke; then driving a Lambo or Ferrari through cornfields after that.

Thanks for posting the video. I found it entertaining. He probably just made 5 cents off my view.
(what does that say about me? :ROFLMAO:)

I did find the whole frame ripping off the rear to be abit odd.. but he did use a chain which puts a very high concentrated initial shock load on it.
If he used a stretch strap I doubt it would have been an issue.

Still the alum frame when towing 11k trailer could be put under considerable shock loading if hitting a pothole etc.

I dont view this type of content often.. but I vaguely remember a Carolina Squat video

Well, let’s see…would any of the following words describe you?

Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
Obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Brave
Clean
Reverent

(Done from memory, if you know, you know).
If that question was directed at me, I’d say all those words describe me to some extent. But I have my demons. I can be impatient and demanding, just to name a few. And I’ve got a major potty mouth. 😂

Yep - that’s the Boy Scout Law. “A Scout is…” followed by those words.

Reckon you’re pretty close…

So now, I take his "testing" as useful information, as ugly as it may be. And I like him.
Didn't watch but OEM's are supposed to be doing testing to destruction--or ideally so. What's the weak point, and is it designed to be strong enough.

Now you'd think that an OEM is in better shape to do scientific testing, and so when some layperson does a test like this, it gets a bit tough to just accept the layperson's results--did they control ever variable? test objectively? but an OEM can have the same questions leveraged at them. "It's a feature not a bug."

Toyota seems to have gotten bit by this recently, the ADD thing that broke, as found by TFL simply using the truck as it was meant to be used. Not even destructive testing. Now that looks really bad! makes one wonder if Toyota bothered to test it at all... or if they tested it with some biased testing.

I met him while spending a bit of time with some others who are well-known on youtube. He has his niche, and he has made millions appealing to the audience he has cultivated. He is very shrewd, and not at all the simpleton some think. He has also contributed greatly to the economy. Love or hate him, he isn't hurting anyone.

I watched him destroy a vintage airplane and was flat-out heartbroken. I strongly disliked him from that point on. Until I watched a video of who he really was, how kind he really is, and that this is his business. Nearly worthless destructive testing. It may be crude as can be, tough to take and certainly fits into the category of "bad" (when considering that making something cool is good, and destroying that which took untold hours to build can approach what we consider evil)

So now, I take his "testing" as useful information, as ugly as it may be. And I like him.
He finds people to trigger and then triggers them. In between wrecking all the machinery he got some $2000 home-boy shoes and "tested" them as well. And him taking a truck out on the ocean on flotation tires was "Mythbusters" level creative.

I think those shoes were like $20k! Can’t say I’m shocked a bunch of 50+ guys don’t love his videos.

As an early 40s guy, I find them pretty entertaining and I think he’s a pretty stand up guy as well. The jet engine merry-go-round was a good one.

Yeah - that's stupid wasteful. This is just senseless.

Then again, I also think most 5k mile synthetic OCIs are wasteful, and that doesn't stop most folks from the act of "cheap insurance" ....

So, to each their own.

.

That is what he does, and it is pretty interesting to see how poorly it is holding up.
Hey Musk is the scammer that said it would have way better specs then oops they downgraded the towing capacity, miles on a charge, it can forward in water etc. He claimed "It's the only truck that'll survive the apocalypse". The things are being totalled for minor damage that would be considered repairable on most other vehicles.

That was hard to watch. I'm not a fan of the truck or the YouTube channel. The door slams were crazy. Sheesh! He is a product of our current society.

No different then when the movie studios destroyed many cars in chase scenes back in the day before CGI reduced that.

All those Crown Vics destroyed when movies were filmed in the 90's-2000's - when Ford was still making them.

LOL being sympathetic at a polygon polluting dead mall parking lots.

I guess Elon was thinking of a rather mild apocalypse since the CT was pretty easily rendered hors de combat.
The idea of testing a resource intense machine to destruction for no better reason than it being clickbait does seem a little wasteful, though.

Folks should be concerned how easily the rear frame separated.
Super sketchy . Just imagine if it was just towing and that happened.

I think the rear body integrated trailer hitch "giga casting" was compromised when it slammed down on a concrete ledge @ the 5:26 mark of the video. The moment the hitch area hits the concrete block is conveniently edited out... This is not a normal occurrence and not the type of load a trailer hitch would be expected to undergo. I bet the hitch would never fail in real life, you can hook it up to 10 bulldozers, floor it, and it would stay intact.

Despite this type of impact very rarely happening in real life, it does appear that the damage is repairable. It would be a massive job and probably spend 2 months in the shop requiring disassembly of half the vehicle. Easily at least $25k+ in repairs and weeks waiting on parts. Tesla doesn't even have a repair procedure yet according to their collision manual and I do not see replacement parts available in the parts catalog.

I've seen vehicles total out for more minor damage though. I don't think Tesla will fix Cody's Cybertruck. They certainly won't like his commentary and destructive testing so they will probably refuse repair because the frame is compromised, the parts are on back order, find some other damage, or use stall tactics. He'll probably just buy (or has bought) another Cybertruck.

The jet engine merry-go-round was a good one.

It's possible Cody will get hurt or killed in one of his videos, he's got to be more careful. With the merry-go-round he was complaining about jet fuel going into his eyes and how the centrifugal force was compromising his arm's strength to get to the controls to shut the engine down. He already had a bad Lasik job and now he's exposing himself to these hazards.

I think Cody will just buy another Cybertruck. He makes potentially $80k / mo just from clicks and he also has sponsorships and a merch store.
