I bought a battery (SuperStart/40R T6) last year at O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store for $139.99 with 2 year warranty with core charge. I looked at the same battery on their website, now it's $149.99.
OK, this is the fun part..Sam's Club has a sale on (Duracell 40R T6) for $79.29 that is marked off $20.00 on the original price of $99.26. w/ 3 year warranty. Comparing both prices, O'Rielly's price is way too much. My question is, why does Sam's sell it so cheap?
 
Is it possible that they have different makers that could be having different sales? I’m not sure who the current manufacturer of the SuperStart is but if it’s different and just the same group size then maybe one manufacturer is having a sale and the other isn’t.
 
uh all autoparts stores have massive markup.

why is their oil $40 when walmart sells it for 21.

Why are rockauto brake parts 25%-33% of the price and higher quality than autozone....

you also chanced upon an instant savings event price (sale)

TSC has batteries with 90 day warranty for about $99 just put one in the tractor on short notice.. wasnt driving 67miles to sam's

Had to replace the other tractor battery in april.. just missed the start of the sale.. but it was a sudden battery death event. no warning.

Yes, I was. Battery went dead, battery tendered it overnight & the next morning, it's still dead. No time to shop around & the nearest one to buy a new battery was O'Reilly's.
 
Are both batteries the same CCA?

As said before, no one has the buying power of Walmart which is Sams & Walmart. They take in $10,000 a second in revenue.

They beat the vendors to the last penny. Then ask for it for less the next year. All the vendors have offices in Bentonville.

The only thing I was told Walmart could not get done was to get Walmart a heavily discounted merchant rate for credit card fees from VISA and Mastercard.

As far as know they are the same battery but different brands. On O'Reilly's site the customers comments, leaning good but on Sam's customer's comments, mixed reviews.

Auto parts stores have a ridiculous markup for retail customers. They cater to the crowd who values convenience over price (nothing wrong with that), or those too lazy (or lack the metal capacity) to comparison shop.

I know a few people who shop exclusively at Autopart stores knowing full well they are often paying twice the price (or more), but the convenience is worth it to them, and they want a parts counter nearby to take it back to if something goes wrong. Different strokes for different folks. I don't step foot in a parts store unless I need something immediately (rare), or I've done my due diligence to be sure they're not ripping me off too badly and that I'm at least getting some lube when they bend me over.

FWIW the Superstart will likely be Clarios, and the Duracell should be East Penn. Of those two choices, I'd prefer the latter.

Yes they are, they have both 650 CCA
 
Duracell batteries at Sam’s Club are top notch. They are made in USA by East Penn. Never mind looking at reviews when there were only two reviews for that battery. What is the point, who would decide anything if there were only two product reviews? I already own two of them and have been waiting for one of Sam’s rare $20 off sales like this one, to buy another. I have a 27F my Tundra that cost $79. As lead acid batteries go these Duracell are about the best you can find.

Parts stores are always a bit high on batteries and oil prices, especially compared to Walmart. Where is the first place people go after they jumpstart their car for the 3rd time in a row or when the magic genie lamp comes on? Usually the nearest AutoZone/O'Reilly's/Advance Auto. It's like buying milk from CVS or a 7-11, yeah it's more expensive but it's probably on your way home, open at odd hours, and you can quickly get in and out.
 
It would be interesting to do a weight comparison of all competing batteries of the same style with the same application. Lead acid T6 in this case. I would go old school and buy the heaviest, all things being equal otherwise.

They appear to be the same battery made by East Penn, here is the Material Data Safety Sheet from O'Reilly showing East Penn as the manufacturer. Sam's doesn't appear to have one but the specs are all the same as the O'Reilly battery.
