Last Tuesday I was supposed to have a hernia operation done, but when I mentioned my subaceous cyst the doctor took one look and said not today. The cyst was infected and the doc explained the infection could attack the hernia mesh via the bloodstream. So i signed off on him removing my cyst.

Turns out the cyst was bigger than a golfball and deeply embedded in my back.

Today I had my stitches taken out, but due the how deep the wound was the wound did not heal. So now I'm basically having gauze stuffed into my back and waiting on a wound pump to come in. I've been told this ordeal will last another 2-3 months before I'm fully healed.

I'd love to post pics of the hole in my back but I'm pretty sure mods would frown upon that. :)

I'm sorry to hear this. Bad spot for that. Probably hard to sit or sleep.
I'm glad you brought it up though, as an infected mesh would be even worse to deal with.
Yeah he's a good doc. He was worried sick it would end up an open wound. Today his nurse practitioner was laughing because he was worried I was going to pop a stitch as was I. I've just got poop luck.

Did you ignore the cyst for a few years ?

How did it get that big ?

R18……..

The best of luck to you going forward!

As for the pics, well, they certainly can’t be any worse than those of an original Toyota Camry cabin filter with 136k miles on it……!

Oof! Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel as last year I had an operation which required a 4" vertical incision right below my belly button. Got a row of staples, but four days later started a fever. They found an abscess so they took out the staples to go back in. For some medical/healing reason, they couldn't close the cut again with staples and I had to let it heal/close up by itself. Quite a shock seeing an fresh open cut like that on your front side!😬 Daily dressing changes from 1/17 to second week of March last year when it finally closed up.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I now lie awake afraid to go back to sleep because my packing fell out when I was asleep.

I feel your pain. I have had to have 3 operations from hernia mesh. Mine got a staph infection from surgery and had to be removed. On the second round it was doing good till I was hit head on in my company Dodge Journey and staph was spread again. Then had to do without for 2 years for it to heal before a new one was installed. Its still in but there is still some staph.. Those pumps are no fun. Had those 3 times. The wreck also stopped my left hip being replaced. So get well and pray to God you have no issues that destroy your healing process. Be patient. You are on my prayer list now.

You are not alone my friend. All downhill since 2019. 1st hernia operation, then back operation, then gall bladder removal, then another hernia operation, then my nutz died and stopped producing Testosterone, throwing my whole Endocrine system out of whack, then a cyst on my Pituitary Gland ( thank goodness benign since not operational area ), then Thyroid went crazy, then another back operation ( which I'm recovering from now ), then blood got too thick from Testosterone injections ( gotta take a pint of blood out of me 1X a month for the rest of my life or I'll stroke out and die ), dead kickstand now , ( good for pee and that's it ), psoriasis is attacking my skin now, had all 20 nails removed due to overly thick from psorsiasis., then internal hemorrhoid's removed,,,but I'm still alive collecting my pension :) BUT... 2-3 month recovery is nothing to sneeze at. I'm going bonkers with this back surgery..only allowed to pick up a gallon of milk for 8 weeks, then 3 months of Physical Therapy. I'll be 59. Sux to get old :(
