I commute into NYC by bus from NJ. From the PA- bus terminal on 40th & 8th Ave, I walk about 25 minutes to my job near 24th and Madison. I have never taken the subway to or from the bus terminal. The strike made me realize how many AMericans avoid exercise at all costs. Many of the riders on the bus, some of tehm 20 something yuppies, take the subway from the bus terminal to avoid a 10 minute walk. I'm glad I have never become so lazy.

When I was in elementary school, I had to walk to school and back home about 2 miles/30 minutes each way everyday year round. When I was in high school, I was rode my bicycle to school for about the same distance. When I went to university by car, 20 miles each way, I put on some weight. So yes, walking is a good exercize. I'm not sure how healthy breathing NYC air is, but if you're taking public transportation, the air is dirty, too.

I beat you both. My former home was on the top floor of a 10 story apt building without elevator, and the apt building is on a hill that is about 10 story tall.

This strike is a blessing in disguise. A lot of people are gonna lose a few pounds. Talk about a Christmas gift
