But the one that makes the claim (on their commercials) that they are most fuel efficient is TOYOTA. Surely we've all heard them "Not just one of the most fuel effieceint, but THE MOST FUEL EFFICIENT". That strikes me as odd since I've heard the same claims from Honda.

Maybe Honda, Hyundai and Toyota will all be running commercials making that claim simultaneously.

Was this have-to mandate part of the bailouts?

nope. Anyone know if there's even a car sold here that does?

As said above 'there's more to a car than just horsepower'.

Well, same goes for fuel economy.

Fuel is only one of many costs associated with ownership of a car. I look at more than one when buying.

And I have seat time in a Camaro V6 with the stick, it was a ballsy little runner. Really surprised me.

the astra might have. No idea about the new one though and they didn't even have a 2009 model of the astra in the us.

They've been self-adjusting since 1996.

Ok 3 Hyundais at 100k = 300k vs. ONE Toyota at 300k....which is cheaper?

Look at GM at under 25 mpg....

OPEC should be the one bailing them out, not us taxpayers.
If you think about it, they are.

Someone should tell the local dealer where I am at, then. I looked at a sonata 2 or 3 years ago and they said the regular valve adjustment had to be performed to maintain the 100k warranty. They said 30k mi for the valve adjustments at $1,100 per adjustment.

The Mitsubishi MIVEC engines (as found in the 2006+ Eclipse) require valve adjustments every 30k.

Getting ripped off at the stealership for a valve adjustment every 30k and a timing belt job every 60k? May as well be buying a new engine! Talk about high ownership costs! I love my 2001 Eclipse but next time I'm in the market for a new car I'll go with a V6 Altima Coupe or an Infiniti G37.

That means just this maintenance item alone, over the life of the car, costs 1/4 of the price you bought it for. Most consumers don't think about this though, so they get away with it...non-BITOGers tend to be overly lazy about preventive maintenance.

That's outrageous!

I didn't even think about questioning it because I knew nothing of motors in general and Hyundai. I did know I refused to pay that much for routine maintenance.

If what the earlier poster said is true and they no longer require valve adjustments, (their manuals do recommend regular valve train inspections and corrections if needed) I'd consider a kia/hyundai if I could find a legitimate dealer.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. These sorts of "comparisons" drive me nuts. We all have to make our own decisions about what works for each of us, where and how we drive. The guy who buys a Chevy Cobalt vs a Toyota Land Cruiser will experience radically lower ownership costs. In like fashion, the fellow who buys a Corolla instead of a Suburban will enjoy a similar advantage.

So, how many of you can realistically translate the "fact" that one car company or another (wherever it originates from) is more "fuel efficient" than another, into an actual "in your wallet" advantage?????????

The first three hyundais were written off by insurance, so some of the money was gotten back. Just because they didn't, dosn't mean, that they, as a model can't, or haven't gone much longer. And you could see the quality improve through the three models that were only years apart, something I probably couldn't say about the generations of Toyotas I have been in.

That's why they call them stealerships. A Hyundai dealer told me that it had an advanced anti-pirate system that doesn't play CD-R's.... There's no such thing in car cd player.

I've been to a Chrysler dealership and looked at their maintenance program for the all Chrysler's....It had nothing to do with the factory intervals.. it was all aftermarket "fuel injection service" aftermarket "transmission flush" aftermarket "throttle body service" using all the same brands of chemicals.
