You'll never hear about how reliable a Hyundai is around here. My 2 have been flawless. People think it is the media hyping them up.
It's not undeserved, I swear!
Yes. It's the stigma that sticks with a car company...they used to be such bad clunkers, but now they are a totally different company under new management, and it seems every problem you hear about them just goes straight through the megaphone of "well, it's a Hyundai, it was bound to happen etc etc etc"
Yet I have had experience with vehicles like the Oldsmobile Bravada which was a total POS, straight from the start, and only lasted 123k...freaking 123k, even with good operation and maintenance... and people will still say oh GM vehicles are amazing etc.
My step-dad works for a car parts distributor and tear-down facility and says he sees more problems with GM SUV's (trailblazers, yukons, bravadas, blazers, jimmys) than ANY other vehicle...and he's been a Chevy guy forever. He told me personally to stay away from every kind of SUV GM puts out, and that's HUGE considering he's been a GM fan boy for as long as I can remember.
Anyways, sorry for the rant, but yeah...it's hard for car companies (or any company for that matter) to shake stigmas of bad products even back in the day.
My Hyundai has been fantastic. A co-worker had a Kia that he totaled off the ice on the highway and still was able to start it up with the engine hanging out of the car and drive it back into town. He said he was stunned, would never buy another car except a Kia or Hyundai.
