I drove one of these today (4 door V6) and it was the best driving, smoothest, and most solid car I`ve ever driven. The engine was so smooth and quiet, that I literally couldn`t hear it even when I put my foot in it. The interior leather and hardware were top notch.

Anyone own one of these? I wonder how the 2 door coupe drives? I must say,I was REALLY impressed with the quality of this car! Hyundai must be doing something right.

The only real connection between the Genesis Coupe and the sedan is that they both use the same 3.8 v6 and 8 speed automatic. That aside, the coupe is a blast to drive. Even nicer is the 5.0L V8 R-Spec sedan.
Hyundai is a world class car. Quality and performance are a complete departure from their "cheap, throw away car" beginnings.
JD Power rated the Sonata the most dependable car in the US just recently.

No surprise. My inherited XG300 is very quiet in spite of frameless door glass, has plush carpet, and leather that would be at home in a Lexus.

It drives like a 2001 Buick LeSabre, floaty, soft, and slow steering. It has fake wood that would be at home in a 2001 Buick LeSabre too

The Azera was supposed to be better.

They had the NVH covered over a decade ago. Just a matter of time before they improved and went RWD

Oh, please; Hyundai cars are expensive junk cars. If you would have been able to get in under Hyundai's assurance programs, you could have traded that Genesis in after 18 months for 20% of its original price. Or, for the same cash you paid, you could have leased a new Porsche Panamera (or a couple of Cayennes).

Am I the only guy that still remembers Daewoo?? Is Kia still offering the BOGO sale on its cars?? In five years, I will still be hearing this same old line: Korean cars are not the junk they were five years ago.

The same was said about Japanese cars 30 years ago.

Ever drove a new Cadillac CTS, Chrysler 300, Buick Lacrosse etc? I think they drive as good and feel as smooth or better.

Hyundai builds a great car!
We very seldom see them in our shop for engine work..Some of their engines make noise but last a long time.
We see lots of honda and nissan but almost no hyundais

Wow, kind of harsh.

I've only driven the last gen 2.0T Genesis coupe (210 HP or something around there). My impression was middling. It's a bigger car than it seems like it would be, but there's no rear seat room. The shifter and steering were fine but nothing extraordinary. It had more power than I was expecting, but only in 1st gear.

I'm sure the newer ones are better, and the V6 is probably much better too, but it seems like most people seem to think they feel underpowered for what they're rated.

When I was thinking about getting that type of car, I figured I would've ended up with either a 370z or a Mustang instead, depending on which way I wanted to go. Throw the BRZ/FRS in too now. I guess I kind of see it as an also-ran compared to most of its competition but that may not be fair.

I've never been in a Genesis sedan though, and I certainly have nothing against Hyundai in general apart from not liking their current styling language.

Hyundai should set up a separate luxury brand likes Acura, Lexus and Infinity. The Equus and Genesis should be in separated showroom from the Accent, Elantra ...

I think the Genesis is a very good car for the money, MSRP starts at $35k, freight charges included, with few options. If the Genesis wears a BMW or MB badge then people will think it is a very nice sedan worth much more than $35k.

Easy fix, just throw a Dynomax Super Turbo on.

I want to hear my car!

Ha funny, I say same thing about Cadillac, Lincoln and Buick, hmm... As of me those are expensive, unreliable, clumsy, old f@rt cars.

As someone who works with these cars and the owners of these cars on a daily basis, I can say beyond any reasonable doubt, that Hyundai and Kia builds a product that is as good or better than anything on the market. This is an irrefutable fact, and any one of my regular customers would tell you the same.
To compare a Hyundai to a Daewoo is a very stupid comparison. Daewoo was and is a GM of China POS that is built in Korea. Daewoo didn't last here as a brand, but continues to be sold here under other nameplates. Chevy Sonic, all of the now defunct Suzukis, and even a lot of your newer compact-midsize cars by GM are built on Daewoo/GM Asia platforms.
Hyundai's prior reputation as "cheap" was developed when the drivetrains were provided by Mitsubishi. By 2000, Hyundai began designing and building their own motors, and quality improved from then on. Hyundai is thriving now for good reason, and has fantastic owner loyalty.

While the Genesis Sedan is a nice car it simply does not stack up well except by pricing.

H has yet to make a car that can really handle, their suspension tuning and NVH are improving rapidly but way behind other makes. As an example, my neighbor's brand new R-spec 429 horsepower Genesis cannot even begin to stay close to my nearly 8 year old Chrysler sedan! Noisier, rides terribly, big impact crash, poor handler, mediocre brakes, etc. Plus all that fake horsepower, these things still have a ways to go yet.

From Car and Driver: 13.7 at 103 mph means a lot of those ponies didn't show up!

If you like toys and glitz then these are a great deal of value for the dollar. If you like CONTENT and real driving pleasure then you will likely be disappointed.

I had one as a rental, it was nice. It drove a lot better than the Avalon rental I had, but I prefer LaCrosse/300/TL over both. I'd pick up a used Genesis if the price was right.

One thing that really irked me about the Genesis was the row of blank filler plates to the left of the driver where buttons would go for options not purchased. In an Elantra, fine. In their top of the line car I thought it really cheapened it.

My daughter got one a few years ago. Its the coupe v6 track, nothing but praise for that car, its been 100% problem free.
We chose it over the domestic offerings like the Mustang as it had nothing to offer, a live rear axle in this day and age?

The Mustang to my eyes looks more like a refugee Ford maverick than a Mustang.
Now if the Challenger would have been out with the big Hemi then it would have Been a different story as would the new BRZ if it had a turbo instead of the anemic slug it has right now.

When I sold Hyundai, I remember being told that the XG was frequently chauffeur driven in Korea. Whether that is true or not, who knows. I did always see it to be a Korean version of the Toyota Century. Although the Century rocks a V12 these days and I believe it goes for $100k.

My jaw was on the floor the first time I saw that commercial for the R-Spec...

I can only think of 3 Suzukis that were Daewoo-zukis. The Forenza, Reno, and Verona. You are correct about those. Rebadged Daewoos with Korean copies of Holden motors. (except for the inline 6 in the Verona.

I don't know where that came from)

But the Aerio, SX4, Kizashi, Swift, Esteem, et-al....were Suzukis. Some were built in Japan. Some were built at CAMI in Ontario. Later XL-7s used the GM Theta chassis but it was altered from the other GM Thetas.

I find them to be a boat, and a notch below a big Lexus fit and finish wise. The big German cars blow them out of the water.

But they cost less so you get what you pay for, what do they go for around $60k?

Oh and the R spec sedan or whatever they call it is not that fast. Any big V8 powered European luxury car has 400hp these days.

Quite frankly drive one alongside say an Audi A8L or an S550 and you will see they are in different leagues.

You could actually buy a slightly used XJ8 for new Genesis money and the XJ is a better car.
