The Hyundai 1.6 engine holds 3.5 quarts of oil. The difference in measurement between the 'add' and 'full' mark on the dipstick is exactly 1 inch. Does anybody know what volume of oil that 1 inch represents.

I'm trying to estimate the volume of a dealer's oil change overfill when the oil on the dipstick is 1/2 inch above the full mark.

You could buy a "fluid extraction pump" at Chinese Hardware, pump some out the dipstick hole and measure it. For four or five bucks, the pump is useful.

I was about to suggest something similar.

As far as the distance between "add" and "full", I think on most cars it's about 1 qt/1 liter, but I'm sure there are exceptions...

Also, just because the one inch between "add" and "full" is 1 qt does not automatically mean that half inch over full = 0.5 qt. This would completely depend on the shape of the oil pan.
