A neighbor is interested in a 8 to 10 year old Lincoln hybrid vehicle. Any comments on the longevity of the battery system in these vehicles? Ed

Batteries degrade. Heat causes them to degrade faster, as do cycles.
That said, hybrid vehicles are designed with battteries thst use a very limited portion of their installed capacity, and therefore have a lot of margin, even as they degrade.
I know of a few Prius with around 200k on them with the original battery. Granted it may be a different chemistry, but some of the principles are still the same.
I'd be concerned, but if replacement was priced into the sale price, a hybrid can be a great option.

Agree. My hybrid uses it for city and highway. Admittedly more time in battery only mode is in the city, but that's good because the draw for the propulsion load is smaller.

Where did you hear that?
Most hybrid systems are designed where the ICE is more efficient, but underpowered. The electric motors are needed to boost freeway acceleration. For the most part the electric motors do nothing at cruising speed, but I've never gone freeway driving where I wasn't braking and accelerating.
