What filters are y’all using for 7,500-10k OCI with HPL?

Just ordered my first case of HPL oil and would like to grab a high quality filter or two to match.

Recently purchased 3.5L Toyota Avalon with 150k miles. Leaning on HPL for a thorough cleaning to help keep this engine/vehicle alive as long as possible. No idea what previous owners used.

Thoughts? Opinions?

my recommendations in order: if you can find an OG Wire backed Fram ultra/tiranium, followed by a fram enduance. endurance is the same filter as the amsoil and royal purple all produced by champion labs. also, you should perform a UOA at 10k miles and see how the oil is doing. just had a chevrolet pickup (5.3LGDI motor) go 12k miles in fleet service with hardly any wear and the oil was still extremely healthy. might be able to go 15-20k miles. is that engine GDI or MPFI?

Since the original Fram Ultras are pretty much in the realm of Unicorn tears your best bet is finding a wire backed Fram Titanium. Even better if your car filter is a cartridge type makes it easy to spot without having a flashlight to look in the can for wire backing.

Other than that there's a few good options out there that might fit the bill.

Fram Titanium - Some of the originals are still out there, if you like playing shopping roulette visiting random Advance Auto Parts stores in your region.

Fram Endurance - Best value Synthetic, louvers can be a hit or miss so check them before buying.
Amsoil, Royal Purple & TRD - Expensive private label options, more or less its the same as the Endurance.
MicroGard Select , Carquest Premium & STP Extended Life - Solid Synthetic Blend series for a good price. If you shop at RockAuto you can these same filters at a lower price from a different brand label but same OEM that makes these 3.

If your car takes a 3/4-16 UNF thread spin-on then you can find even more niche options
Donaldson P551132 - Best value synthetic synteq at 17 microns, nitrile ADBV.
FleetGuard LF16011 - Expensive, lots of media pleats, StrataPore media & silicone ADBV.

How dirty is the engine? HPL will do some cleaning, so if you're going to run it for 7500-10K miles, a high efficiency and high capacity filter would be better than not. The Fram Endurance (with reinforced backed media) or equivalent type filter would be better than a low efficiency filter. Some filters are relatively low efficiency but have a long OCI rating, which is something you don't really want for a long OCI when engine cleaning action is part of the equation.

Not sure. I’d imagine rather clean. 1-owner 85 year old owner sold me the car. 18 year old Toyota. Mint condition even being a Michigan car. Not even any rust. Ole guy said synthetic was done every 5k miles.

About to roll over 150,000 tomorrow.

Thanks 👊

I hope u are a good deserving person that will maintain this vehicle. It would be a criminal if the maintenance lapsed and u abused it.

Lol

Seeing that I’m here seeking a little assistance should say a lot.

If you deem I’m not “worthy” you’re welcome to pick it up. I’m asking $7,500 cash. That way you get a “deserving” car and I make 20%.

This is my second, third generation Avalon.

The Toyota filters I’ve been using in my Tundra have been excellent. Since yours uses a similar design, I would keep it simple.

Since this is your first run with HPL, I would pull the filter at half your planned interval and see what it has captured.

The oil will be fine, but if the filter is loading up, I would want to know that.

In 2017, we bought a 2009 Lexus ES350 41k from wife’s GF. Same color platinum pearl white for $12k. So far only major maintenance items: atf fluid. two coolant and brake fluid flushes. Enjoy the car.
