I was helping someone with an HP 8600 wireless all-in-one printer. It worked wireless and USB several months ago. Then a storm knocked out the cell based wireless hub. After that was reset, USB works, but not wireless.

1) The printer itself shows connected to the proper wireless network with a valid IP address.

2) Laptop is also connected to same network, can browse the internet.

However I cannot use the wireless printer nor PING it. Nor try and browse the printers IP address.

I deleted all the printer stuff, downloaded new drivers, turned off firewall, still no good.

The HP install software cannot locate the printer either.

One odd thing, when I go to printer properties and the PORTS tab and click "configure" to look at the port setup, I get an error popup saying it cannot configure the port.

I am thinking there is something corrupted with the laptop.

Ideas short of reloading Win 8?

I would download and run this utility:

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pag...g-NDU&ju...

Alternatively I would try to see if you can setup a static IP address on the router and assign it to the printers mac address. I do this on my home network, makes things much simpler/consistent

I tried that utility, did not solve anything.

The modem/router is a Verizon cell based hot spot. The person whom I was helping did not know the password. Its a limited function box that only allows a fixed number of connections (like 10) and not sure if it supports static IP addresses.

Have you checked your Windows 8 firewall settings or perhaps purchased a different anti-virus software for your new Window 8?

Maybe one of these is creating a conflict?

I doubt it's anything on the laptop side

It's the hub (HW or SW config cleared)

At first I thought maybe each had connected to a different wireless router. But he says he only has one.

While people say "it worked fine until xyz happened" you never know.

Each gets connected to the wireless router and I can see in the printer display its connected and from the laptop I can get to the internet.

Getting an error under Win 8 when I try to configure the printer port lead me to think its the laptop.

I will bring another laptop when I go back.

I am thinking a Windows 8 "Refresh".
