How can you tell how used up a filter is when you cut it open? I cut an aa3614 last night from a 5,000 mile change. What would I look for to see how used up it is? Also, there was a bent pleat that was a little torn at the base where it was glue? Is this bad? Thanx

Would it be fair to say after cutting open if media is filled to the top of pleats then full? Is a level less than this better max loading, say 1/2 way up pleats? You can also go by weight, comparing new and used mases of filter media. Any guess of acceptable weight gain here?

You can't really go by weight because the new one is empty of oil and the used will be saturated... Besides if it really is that heavy after "Filtering" it would be plugged...

Well will the pleats really capture that much junk to be visible? I am looking at it and I don't see anything accumulated??? Thanx

No unless your motor is sludge or really dirty you won't notice anything because the wear metals are usually microscopic at best.

As far as holding capacity, you're only looking at something like 10grams. I'm trying to remember what 10grams feels like ..but the last time I pondered such things ..everything was kinda foggy.
