How to remove powder coating?

Hello I bought a black powder coated battery tie down for my car. I think some acid leached onto the battery tie down and has stripped some of the powder coating off. I tried using paint stripper on the powder coating but it was not effective. Is there any product that can safely remove the powder coating down to the bare metal?

Any abrasive wheel on a grinder. Or sand paper but it's going to take awhile.

Battery acid seems to work Otherwise, as said above, the coating must be mechanically abraded off.

Sandblast it's only a couple minute job. Really it only takes about a minute.

what kind of sand? Ours wont touch powdercoat. Only dulls it. We use green garnet.

We have tons of stuff powder coated at work, I bring stuff to our powder coater almost every day. When we have something that needs to be stripped, they send it out to another place that specializes in coating removal. I don't know the specifics, but I do know that for steel parts they put them in an oven that burns the powder coating off. For aluminum parts, they use a chemical process because the heat of the oven will damage the aluminum.

Hydrochloric acid assuming the tie down isn't aluminum. Soak it in a plastic container. I've cleaned up many steel parts with the stuff. Also put some scrap aluminum trim pieces in it.. only the paint was left floating on the top.

Have you tried JASCO paint stripper ? That stuff is loaded up with M.E.K.
