With this new car shortage and what have you, a lot of dealers are charging for add ons like "ceramic coating" or "interior protection". That either they don't even apply or cost them half of what they charge customers. What if I don't want it?

How do you guys go about this? How do you get them to take that bs off?

Buy from a dealer in Illinois. Illinois is the only state in the USA that has a huge dealer network and a declining population.

One may have to purchase from a rural Illinois dealer, rather than a Chicagoland dealer. But buy that car from a rural dealer in Illinois, likely the place one most likely can get a not over the top out the door price in the USA on a new vehicle purchase.

I'm looking at a used car and the dealers trying to tell me they applied a ceramic coating and a 5-year interior protection warranty. Want to charge me $998 for it. I didn't ask for that :(😂

Didn’t you work for a dealer?? You should tell us how!

Man, a lot of customers don't really mind it since we actually put it on. A lot of dealers don't put the ceramic coating on and stuff. We charge 2995. 10-year unlimited mile warranty tho.

Consumers have little leverage today. There is a shortage of vehicles and the dealers have very little reason to negotiate much. They'll just sell the car to someone more desperate for a vehicle than you.

My daughter didn't listen to dad and bought a Buick Encore. It's been problem after problem. She's looking to trade it in and it is either pay a lot for a used car that you can drive off the lot today, buy from the slim pickings of new cars on the lot or wait a month or two for a new car that you want to come in. And it's $2000 over sticker. You really need to shop around and even then you might not find what you want for the price you want.

In 2015 when I bought my Camry, it came with pinstriping and etching all that stuff. Told the dealer I didn't want it. They said don't worry about it. I'm sure they made their money some less transparent way. LOL.

Head for the door and see how quick they change their tune, had to do this my last couple of buys, hate dealing with the Finance guy, first thing I tell them is save your breath as I don't want any extras, they go from this :D to this 😠

I don't really need a car. Just stumbled upon a car I've always wanted since I was like 11

Or just tell finance you changed your mind and you're paying cash 😂. Start as if you're going to finance. Then when you head into finance write a check.

Yes-but at the max-the very max it costs you $500.00. Nice markup.

No, they don't mind because far too many people go to a dealer's lot with every intention of driving their new(-to-them) car home that evening, no matter what. They accept add-ons, dealer mark-ups, mandatory extended warranties, gap insurance, and so on.
