How to get to a million.

You need boutique oil to get to 400,000 miles and even a million, Mobil 1 wont do it. (Sarcasm)

Just keep up with the maintenance, stick to 5,000 mile oil change intervals, don't forget to service the transmission and differentials as well as the power steering and brake fluid, coolant as well.

Service everything that is serviceable, a lot of people tend to ignore basic maintenance and think oils changes is all that is needed which a lot of times they can get away with on Toyota's because they are the longest lasting vehicles and can take the abuse but if you really want to shoot for a million you got to keep it all well serviced.

The real answer to this beyond the obvious (maintenance and fluid changes) is highway miles.
Yep, that’s why the “goal” is more aspirational than a goal. If this was a true goal I would focus on driving highway miles and getting hardcore about it. I have driven it to LA twice from northern California. But most of the driving is around rural county roads and towns. I appreciate the advice. Looks like I am on the right track simply by doing basic and regular maintenance.

If you want to cheat a bit, you can always "drive" it on jack stands or a dyno :sneaky:

The only sure way I know is to get to 999,999.0 then drive very carefully one more mile. This also reminds me of another thing I've mentioned before: I have my great-grandfather's axe. The handle has been replaced 6 times and the head once...but it's still considered to be his axe. Best of wishes in your quest to reach your goal...I hope you make it!

That’s a great machine! Just curios, have you done the math for gas to drive another 600k?
I bought gas for 2.52 a gallon today. Gas Buddy shows it's 2.25 in Texas. I think all these electric cars on the road have created a surplus condition. They may be working in our favor!

Having gotten my Xterra well over 400K (daughter driving it now) and also helping customers keep old industrial equipment running, I'll give you my input.

1) fix everything now - including cosmetic. Get everything the way you want it - then maintain it to that condition. Don't let problems linger.

2) Continue to follow the proper severe duty schedule on all the fluids. Brand won't matter - just follow spec on the fluids and intervals. Fancy fluids are for people doing fancy things - longer OCI, track days, or maybe (although unlikely) they help with known mechanical deficiencies.

3) Most important - figure out what the failure prone parts are and stock up on them now - while there still available and people still have the software to program them. This is what the best manufacturing companies do when they know there running obsolete equipment - they figure out what's likely to break and source and stock parts for those - so they have them when needed.

Good luck. Nice rig.
