Model GCVH6400J1WW. I contacted GE Canada but they would not give me the procedure. Tried some Internet suggestions but did not work
1) Hold Start button for 10 secs
2) Signal-Delay-Signal-Delay
3) Siganl-Extra Rinse-Signal-Extra Rinse
4) Hold Start

button and turn selector knob CCW And then CW

One of the above is probably the correct one and I am not doing it right.

Try this procedure:

To enter diagnostic mode on a GE GCVH6400J1WW washer and check for error codes, follow these steps:
  1. Ensure the washer has been recently plugged in: If it hasn't, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait 15-30 seconds for the system to boot up.
  2. Press and hold the Start button.
  3. While holding the Start button, rotate the main dial counterclockwise seven times.
  4. Release the Start button. The washer should chime, indicating it has entered the diagnostic system.
  5. To view error codes, rotate the knob clockwise.
  6. Pressing the Start button will cycle through any stored error codes.
To exit diagnostic mode, press the power button.
Note: This diagnostic mode allows you to check for error codes and test various components of the washer. You can use online resources or a service manual to interpret the meaning of specific error codes. Remember to disconnect power before servicing your appliance.

It is similar (but counterclockwise) to the top loader diagnostic procedure shown in this video around the 1 min, 40 sec. mark.

Is there a technician sheet inside it? If so it will have that model specific sequence. Some machines are a PITA to get into diagnostics even with the correct sequence.

This turned out to be really helpful. It is turned out to be the only way to get the procedure. Nukeman's procedure "recently plugged in + hold Start + CCW 7 clicks" did not work.

I posted on an Appliance Repair Forum and got this suggestion
"Posted Thursday at 11:52 AM
To enter diagnostic mode on your GE Washer GCVH6400J1WW, keep the door closed and simultaneously press and hold the Power and Start buttons. Holding the buttons in place, rotate the cycle selector knob 180° clockwise. The lights will flash and the washer will be in diagnostic mode and ready for display of error codes or testing."
This one did not work either.

Got the diagnostic sheet out from behind the kick panel and "recently plugged in + signal-delay-signal-delay" procedure worked. I had come across this on a google search and tried it and it did not work because I did not unplug and plug back in to ensure "recently plugged in" Turns out "recently plugged in" is important.

The issue I was chasing was the machine adding time to the cycle - displayed time to end of cycle would suddenly increase in the midst of washing clothes - and the error code was 60, involving the door lock. A new door lock is $150Cdn. The service instructions for code 60 says - if replacing the lock does not resolve the issue, then replace the control board! Hope it does not come to that.
