Hey guys, this is my first post in a while! I am not normally one for Black Friday shopping, but this year Walmart has a few items that I want to pick up. The main thing is a Compaq laptop that they're selling for $179. Heres how it goes; the laptop sale starts at 10, and I have a few things to pick up that go out at 8. So, for you experianced black Friday shoppers, what should I do? The laptop is stocked in "Limited quanities", and I dont know how many people will be there or how many laptops they'll have. When I go at 8 should I just hang around until 10 to wait, or is that too long? I wanna do this right. Thanks!

I heard on NPR that Walmart will make sure anyone there between 10PM & 11PM Thur will get whatever Black Friday specials they want.
This was a report on how Black Friday is now Black Thur, not a Walmart ad.
I would verify it however.
Also keep in mind that typically every Black Friday someone (greeter) is caught up in the mad rush and trampled to death or shot in the parking lot. If someone is killed on Black Friday you can bet it will be at a Walmart.

You may be able to get the same price and have one waiting for your pickup at the store, or even shipped to your door.
You might also wait until the week before Christmas.
Whatever is left will be reduced in price by then.

Given the increasing level of consumer confidence over the past four months, I'd say that most items were ordered in greater volume than was the case last year.
On laptops, as with oil, there's always a deal.
You may be able to get the same price and have one waiting for your pickup at the store, or even shipped to your door.
You might also wait until the week before Christmas.

Did you see he ASUS Kmart and Sears has for 219 i believe its a much better unit with 14" screen though.
In my experience most of the deals end up online. Maybe a few don't, but for me, I wouldn't find going out in the cold on Thanksgiving night worth it. I snag plenty of deals from the comfort of my home with leftovers heating up in the microwave.
Also, as someone who worked retail for a few years, I think it is awful that these stores open on Thanksgiving. Along with Christmas, Thanksgiving used to be one of the two days a retail workers could rely on for a day off with family or whatever they choose to do. Now they get to eat early so they can get ready to go deal with people who are ticked off about them running out of a bargain laptop.

With so many places doing a online black Friday I wouldn't even think of going to the story and dealing with the mobs of people trying to get the special deal. Some really enjoy it, but I'm not much into crowds anyway, especially nut cases.

+1 My local Walmart was the store with the stampede. I'd rather pay the regular price or wait for another sale and pass on the Black Friday deals at Walmart. JMO

completely agree, not only are you making low wages, your forced into work on holidays ? now if they asked for volunters and paid they a time & a half or doubletime to come work it..

Last year, my wife was working on Thanksgiving (she's a Nurse) and there was one thing I wanted at Wal Mart. Never again. It was a riot! Almost got clocked by a vacuum cleaner that someone threw across an aisle. I might hit some smaller places (Pep Boys, Ace Hardware, etc) if they have something I want, but I'm avoiding the major mob scenes.
I noticed in looking through the Sears BF ad that several things listed were the same price or even higher than in their previous ads for the past month. Sure that Sears is not the only one that follows that strategy.

i would highly advice on not going to store unless its pep boys or something that rarley has lines and plenty of supply to go around.
its been crazy latley and if you keep refresing black friday and slickdeals.net deals YOU WILL FIND something u can use , prob not exaclly what you want but something for cheap for sure.
stores always cold , pushs , limted supply did that 2 years in high school and finalley gave up

I doubt that Walmart is selling this trinket at a loss, so other sellers will have the same or similar at a similar price.

Sales to the frugal and bad will from those who miss out is no way to succeed in retail.

My plan is to go to work on Black Friday, as I normally do unless we've gone out of town for Thansgiving.
There is a Pep Boys I can hit either coming or going as well as an Ace Hardware.
I may or may not stop by either or both.
Since I have plenty of garden variety oil, I'm not pressed to add any GTX, Pennzoil Conventional or Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

The M1 deal is also no cheaper than the everyday price at Walmart.
I guess I'll just head straight to the office and then straight home.
Should be a nice quiet day at work, since everyone else will be off, either out of town or shopping.
