Yes, a long oval head will struggle to fit/be comfortable, on. Round head, and vice versa, so sort that in-store, certainly, before buy anything. And that, too, baries manufacturer to manufacturer, and with Arai, model to model.
Do measure your head. It’s not “automatic” that it’ll fit right, no. But the SHELL will be close to correct. Then, swap headliner and cheek pads to dial in.
I can fit my 61cm head in a large Arai Concept-x, fits like a glove on my head, perfect! Put I can easily kiss the inside of the shell - shell is too small for me. An XL with thicker pads fits perfectly and properly. Similarly with my Shoei.
