Do I have to replace the o-ring on the Frantz base plate everytime I change the TP? I am trying to save money here (US $1 per o-ring), but would rather not to have leak.
I don't know anything about the new Frantz filters but I have one that is over 20 years old that has never had the gasket changed or turned. I have had a few that were some type of rubber that had no memory and had to be changed in a short time. I have used regular 0-rings. 4 1/8" x 4 3/8" x 1/8" I think. I use BUNA-N rubber. I don't remember ever changing my 30 year old Motor Guard 0-ring. I had a complaint from a marine engine owner that said the Motor Guard gasket was swelling with diesel fuel filtration. I sent him a VITON 0-ring and that cured the problem. I started putting VITRON 0-rings in all the fuel filters. It is the same thing with hoses. Some hoses are better for conventional oil and some are better for synthetics.
The 0-ring keeps getting thinner and wider. Flip it and it gets thinner and wider the other way. If the grease is compatable with the 0-ring material it doesn't matter.
