I change mine whenever my smog result is borderline failure.
I change them based off the CEL. My truck threw an O2 sensor code right after 100K miles. I found Bosch sensors with direct fit plugs for something like $40 a piece on Amazon (3 total). Didn't even have to reset the CEL...the computer apparently detected right away that the new sensors (or whichever one replaced the bad one) were in spec.
I have 129K on the 3.1 in my 02' Buick Century and I still have the OE O2 sensors.
I was thinking of changing them (at least the front one) because my MPG seems lower.
Is this hard to change?
PS: I have no CEL and the car is running fine..

I had to change my 02 sensor once on my 01' Durango around 40K. Since then no CEL has come on at all. Sensors can go out at anytime but are usually pretty reliable. I'd say If you have the money then go ahead. It's just one less headache for you down the road.

I wait until the CEL is on and the car or truck has to be tested. They are fine and the maintanence is overkill unless needed to be replaced. I am sure there is a benefit to replacing them early but IMO unless really needed like your MPG significantly drops it seems like a waste to replace them if they are functioning properly and there is a warning light to come on when they stop doing so.
I usually change mine out around 100,000 miles unless they are the one or two wire ones on older vehicles and then I change them out at 30,000 miles.
