Hi, I'm doing alot of very short trips(blocks not miles)and with only 3-4K miles/yr,I plan to change the 5W-20 oil('03 Focus SE)at 4-months and the filter at 8-months.The filter change is no fun on the Focus.
How often do ya'll change your oil filter

The filter is so easy to get to on my GP, that I do it twice a year when I cahnge my oil.

At the same time, how is it any different than someone who runs 12k on the same batch of oil and the same oil filter?
Just think of it as a 12k interval with 5 quarts of top up in the middle!
i now do an oil filter change every other oil change, or 15,000 miles.
the last filter i cut open had 7500 miles on it and looked like new inside. there was no crud in it. and besides my car manf says to change it ever 15K anyways.

Patman - I know what you saying (writing), and I'm not saying that it will necessarily harm anything to leave that oil in there....but I just believe WHEN you do decide to change oil...change ALL the oil.
