Just dropped the pan and changed the transmission fluid and filter. Took 5qrts. The fluid wasn't pretty. Brownish and a bit smelly, but not hellish. The magnet wasn't bad at all. Taurus has 160K and works fine. Probably hard to say is it, how much damage is done to the transmission? I wil now change the transmission fluid with each oil change, eventually working in the new fluid.

Any thoughts or advice? AutoRx?

Add 6oz, drive 1000-1500 miles then flush the fluid. The instructions are on the site.

160k on original transmission?
Is that a new record for a Taurus?
Without transmission disassembly, its impossible to guess the amount of damage if any.
Stick with regular ATF changes.
I don't see the need for anything else at this mileage level.

After you chaange the fluid twice you have about 85% new fluid. Changing it again gets you to maybe 88%, the law of diminishing returns takes over.
