How miles have you put on your car using non OEM ATF.

I know there is a big split among people that go oem atf and those that happily and successfully use aftermarket.

I am interested in what
1) vehicle you drive
2) the non oem atf fluid you use
3) and how many miles you have used it for successfully.
ideally l would be interested in those that go 200k or more.

2018 Ford Edge; Motorcraft LV atf. Fords are finicky with aftermarket fluid. Reasonably priced from RA.
2012 Suzuki Kizashi w/JATCO cvt; Valvoline CVT. No issues
2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara; Mobil 3309 or Toyota lV fluid, believe they are the same.
1992 Volvo 940; Valvoline Maxlife, matches the Volvo requirements

I would be wary of using a 'universal' fluid in anything. There is no such a 'universal' vehicle.

07 Camry with U250E transmission. Almost 346,000 miles and its had fluid drops and refills using Valvoline maxlife ATF every 30-60k miles since it's had about 60,000 miles. Still shifts decent enough it has some soft shifts and a flare here and there but its done that for the last 200,000 miles and is somewhat common for that transmission. Transmission is original and never been opened up.

For anyone not aware these cars come with WS fluid factory

Great info! Exactly the info that l and the rest of the forum can appreciate.

2000 Jeep Cherokee I bought with 95000 miles in 2010. It's at 215000 miles running mostly Supertech Dex/Merc III and VI. I did a run of ATF in it with Mercon V that I had left over from the car it replaced. The dex VI works well in it and I beat up on it pretty hard.

My Grand Marquis has had somewhere around 47k miles put on it with supertech Mercon V. These older 4R70s get weird when you run non-Mercon V in them.

Two dump and fills on a Ford Edge using Castrol Transmax, because it was the only Mercon LV rated fluid I could find. WM seems to never have two jugs of Valvoline Maxlife when I'm changing fluid, and the Transmax is working perfectly at 150K so I guess I will continue that.

Short answer: Only with an excuse I can justify. 9/10 OEM is my go to

Astrick(s):
- Towards the end of its life local dealer did not carry any type of OEM fluid for the old family PT cruiser, so Castrol went in IIRC.

- For my '17 Tacoma with manual transmission I have been using Motorcraft XT-M5-QS juice last 100k or so. It is popular in many groups... but, since the last 😩 price hike, I'll probably go to a HPL manual transmission fluid next go. (Dealer said if they did it, they would just use the same [generic] bulk 75-85 GL-4 that they put in diffs and transmissionf cases (I feel like it deserves better).

- For the Boss 302 (Also manual transmission) Ford updated spec from a GL-4 to a DCTF. Local Ford dealer kind of rubbed me the wrong way last time so I have 4 qts of Motul DCTF ready to go in come spring.

My '95 Seville has been happily running on Supertech Dex VI for 10k+ miles without issue. Shifts range from buttery smooth to firm and positive at WOT.

my 2012 pilot has 20kish miles on aisin dw-1 but had wolfs head from 45k-135k, now almost 160k
2002 crv has 10ish k on aisin dw-1, no changes until we got it at 178k
2007 corolla that i sold to a friend is at 50k on cvt co-formulated maxlife, got it with 130k and now at 180k

116k on my Nissan rogue and 206k on my Nissan Altima that my daughter now uses for a work car. The rogue has had a mix of eneos and idemitsu changed every spring, with last run being oem. The Altima has had just about everything except castrol. Mainly eneos and Valvoline.

My 92 Mercedes 300D went approximately 320k miles on Amsoil Dexron equivalent. Changed it one time at around 30k miles and it didn't fail. I sold the car @348kmiles when plastic parts started cracking and couldn't find new ones.

I've posted about this previously, but with my old Nissan Sentra, using aftermarket fluid jacked up the transmission, resulting is very poor shifting thereafter. Do as you like, but I don't feel that saving a few bucks on aftermarket fluid adds any value.

That's awesome!

07 Toyota FJ Cruiser w/241 k miles, w/A750e 5 speed automatic.
Amsoil Synthetic Low Viscosity (ATL)
190k miles and 15 yrs since I switched it to the Amsoil ATL.

Many vehicles over many years.
I've used Valvoline, SuperTech and Mobil1 ATF in Mercon, Mercon V, Dex III and Dodge ATF. Mobil1 covers a lot of factory specs. My vehicles go from 200 to 300k miles without any transmission problems. Like engine oil, change at recommended mileage.
