How many times have you waxed/polished your ride?

hehe, I can't imagine polishing that kind of realestate in the desert heat.

Steve

No desert here, coastal plains.

Heat yes, but whats even worse is the humidity.

Starting in March and through October I sweat my ***** off detailing my vehicles.

The humidity here makes the mild winter we have feel actually worse. 50F with 20mph winds and 68% humidity makes it feel FREEZING!

i would love to have some dry cold and dry heat!

I've had my Ranger for 2 years now. Been while since I last waxed it, this past summer I think? I've polished twice over a period of time. Once with DACP and the other time SFP. So I'd say I've polished twice and waxed 3 times. I've clayed it twice as well too. Still shines pretty well but it could use some light TLC.

Last time I waxed it, I used NXT on a PC and it came out pretty nice and very slick. MY products are looking pretty shabby and low so I need to restock in the spring,,,,,AR

What is DACP, SFO, and NXT on a PC?

I know NXT is a wax/polish type of product, but what are the other acronyms?

For those of us who keep our cars very clean and polish and wax often, not only are we drving better looking cars but in the event any of us want to sell it should help them move quicker!!
Should help maintain the value.

DACP- Meguiars #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish

SFP - Meguiars #82 Swirl Free Polish.

Yep and PC stands for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher. You could say PCDAP but most folks just say PC,,,,AR

If I'm trying/testing new products, I'm polishing probably 2-3 times a month, but only in small, manageble sections. I divide my truck into sections to test several products at once, side by side.

If I'm not testing products, I'll polish my entire truck every 3-4 months and apply several coats of Zaino's latest formulation.

I wash every 7-14 days, weather permitting.

Washed mine twice yesterday! Once before I left the house, and again when I returned. The sunny weather is melting the snow, so the roads are wet in sections.

I made an appointment for next Saturday to get the detail shop to put a coat of wax on it for me. They use Meguires products, and only charge $59. It's a good deal for the wintertime when it's too cold to do it myself at home.

In Miami the paint will get dull if you do not wax due to the blazing sun and constant downpours...I generally wax every other month.

How well I understand!!!! The summer of '09 was more than I could deal with. I've only had my car for a year but it has countless hours spent in machine polishing and sealants. The day I got it home from the dealer I put 8 hours in it with clay, Menzerna polishes (machine), and sealant. I'm always out in the garage going over it with Aquawax, a spray on sealant. Soon I'll strip it all off and start over. The color is Blizzard White Pearl and shades are required on a bright sunny day.

I notice in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area black cars will go quick if not waxed enough...A friend has a black 6 year old Benz and the hood, top and trunk is quickly is fading away...Even white cars get chalky looking if not waxed enough.... The only color [to my amazement] that seems to fair well is silver..I remember back in the 70's silver was the worst color to get as it peeled and faded with 2 years...I had a silver 77 Caprice and that had paint issues and I always kept that Caprice waxed.

It's hard to notice fading on silver because it refracts light more than it reflects it. Solid, non metallic colors like white, black, and red will always show fading and discoloration more readily to the human eye.

In the past, silver and red can fade quickly due to their pigments and poor clearcoat application. Today with water based base/clear paint jobs, those colors are no worse than any other color.

I wax mine in the spring and fall. I am 50ish and have waxed/polished/compounded/clay bared/and even applied bondo where needed and my cars have always looked "shiney" but my hands are worn and I have tennis elbow(s) but I will never pay someone to do what I can do. Cars are the 2nd biggest investment you will make so I just think they should be well taken care of. Not waxing your car is like painting your house and only putting primer on and no paint.

In South Florida I do not see many people waxing cars like I did in the NYC area...I usually do mine 3- 4 times a year...I am surprised since we get burning sunshine and downpours just like in a jungle the bulk of the time...There is a guy who comes around my complex all the time and waxes cars...He gets 40 bucks per car and he usually gets a few customers...I refuse to pay someone to wax my car as I really do not mind doing it...I usually clean my wheels once a week.

Ha.....

The original post was 5 YEARS ago!!

Who dug this up?

I dont have the Vic anymore, I sold it. I still see it driven by the new owner. It looks sad when I pass by it!

When I have a lot of free time on my hands, I wash every 1 - 2 weeks. During school though, it's more like 1 - 2 months.

Within the last 2 months I waxed my car 3 (maybe 4 times), but that included layering the sealant the next day after the initial applications. I like the wet glossy look.
