How many of you recycle your old oil filters, cabin air filters and air filters?

Cut the oil filters, drain out the rest of the oil, use the media for wood stove firestarters. Drained baseplates, shells & metal endcaps fished out of the ashes go in the scrap pile. No complaints from the scrap man yet (they never really look at the mixed “shredder” steel anyway).

I do! I have been since 2000 or so. Every oil change,I take apart the filter, remove its used mrdia.put that and adbv in separate plastic bag,for garbage with cleanup oil change. The metal components, top,(I also remove the gasket, garbage),anything metal, including core(use large screwdriver too remove media).put in separate bag,and when I go too recycling center, toss the filter components into metal container. Before 2000 sadly,I just left the filters in garbage. I realized around 2000,`∆what a waste it was, resource being land filled or incinerated.
For air filters,I pry the metal screen off top.takes a while, with a exceptionally large screwdriver and pliers. I also recycle my windshield wipers.pull the rubber media off.remove plastic clips.take too recycling center.

Since I’m out in the country, I burn lost old used oil filters and air filters. Then my scrap friend comes by whenever for the metal pieces.
Yep - I recycle the energy content within them by allowing the woodstove in the shop to convert said energy contents into heat.

I’ve heard of some folks throwing them in the trash. Must be some real brain surgeons as that means chance is it will end up in landfill

I've had my oil filter cutter-opener for about 15yrs. I toss the drained filter parts out in the trash along with the empty oil containers.

oil filters well drained upside dwn (is not total as some stays in media) & thrown into any of the junk cars going to the crusher here. Helps add up weight on junker's scale. 2 - 4 cars hauled away ayr (at a time when they pay us. We just call them when it's not free but we get something (~200$).
AF/CA into the one stream dumpster. Unfortunately our hauler is out of state based so do what they want w/contents. Is supposed to cross state lines to a MERF where the 1-stream is sorted by mo`chene (ppl help ) to glass, plastic, etc. I understand it goes to NY (FingerLakes region) & OH for land burial, some gets open-air burned. We have banned together to petition that change (toa zero waste system).

Heck i
My mech adds a $1 to my OC bill for recycling oil filters. He is big on recycling every thing he can.
even sort out my recyclables like soup cans, coffee cans for the scrap guys around me. Even the pull tab seal on grease tubs and tubes.
