It is a great car. The AC doesn't work anymore, which means it is noisy on the highway, but some earplugs take care of that. The engine is in great shape, and it still pulls hard when the throttle is open.

Canadians still figure out MPG in imperial gallons, because before we switched everything over to metric in the late 70s, gas was sold here in imperial gallons. So carmakers still put the MPG on the window stickers in imperial gallons for old time's sake.

Our 2000 Civic has 95,000 miles on it and has been very reliable for us, the only repair was a cracked exhaust manifold. Around town, with my wife driving, it's not very good on gas, only getting about 23-24 MPG in the summertime. But we just went on a trip up north to a cottage, it was about 300 miles round trip and we were driving at 55-60 mph most of the time and it turned in 36.2 MPG, even with the AC on for probably 25% of that time and the car loaded up with 2 adults, 2 kids and a completely full trunk. So I'm pretty happy with that figure.

2000 CR-V we bought new, now has 51k miles. No real problems to speak of. We are now only putting about 3k to 4k miles a year on it. I'm 58 so it should last the rest of my life!

Same here. I use US gallons when reporting gas mileage simply because it's consistent with the largely US membership on these forums. I actually like the metric measure even better (liters/100 km) but it's generally meaningless to US readers.

I think the metric measure is actually better because you are measuring how much fuel it takes you to go a certain distance, so there is the same difference between 5 and 6 as there is between 13 and 14. With mpg there is a much bigger difference between 15 and 16 than between 30 and 32. That makes it misleading sometimes. The equivalent for us would be to have a "gallons per hundred miles spec." 20mpg would be 5, 33.3mpg would be 3, 10mpg would be 10; 40mpg=2.5. You can see that way that the difference between 10 and 20mpg is much bigger in gallons used than the difference between 20 and 40mpg.
