How many miles have you gotten from winter tires?

My PUG Partner is on second season with Barum xy 195/65/15, and still have 6-7 mm after 20k. On Punto wife had Toyo Snowprox for 35k, including summer driving, last winter changed to Nokian WR D3.

All vehicles are driven mostly on wet and dry roads with temperatures from 3-20 *c, in case of Toyo summer service, even up to 35 *C.

Michelin 7mm after 12kkm. Something wrong with car or tire or tire is mismatch for a car.

Nothing wrong with the car, alignment is fine. I usually get 35k from my winter sets, but last year winter was unusually dry, and as usually hot. Most of the service time my winter tyres spend outside of their comfort zone (temperatures above 7*C), but being wetish very often they seem not to mind. As said, last winter was rather dry, maybe A5 do not like dry tarmac?
And, in defense to Michelins, they do start with only 8mm of tread.

Well, no winter tire likes dry, warm weather.
8mm? Michlein is making shallower tires by the day.

Yep, that's what the sales man told me back at the tyre shop. Problem is , here locally, I really do not need winter tyres, but wherever I move (and by the nature of geographical location) I move up north. And for those few trips to the continent I have to bare with the additional sets of tyres.

Rijeka / Fiume. I like to go to the Gorski- Kotar, Platak, to enjoy some snow fun. Also, as you know, I don't have to go far outside of the city to come to the mountains, and thus, from Mediterranean to continental climate.

By law, when leaving city parameter winter tyres or summer with minimum 4mm of tread left and snow chains prepared for mounting are mandatory. Which, in practice, means , you really have to have winter tyres because there simply isn't enough snow to mount chains, and our summer performance tyres are absolutely useless in any snow or even slush.

Does the law allow All Season tires? Many have the snowflake Winter rating. It seems silly to have only Summer and Winter tires to choose from.

I thought so. Over Gorski Kotar I would always want to have some sort of winter tire, especially if you end up eating lamb overnight and then you get caught in snow storm on your way back:)

All Seasons are equal legally to the dedicated winters as long they are snowflake /mountain symbol approved. I had Goodyear Vector? A/S and they were great. Thing is, they are very expensive if going with big brands.
Plus on that, my winter sets are 15 and 16 inch, summers are 17. I can get, usually, 35k from summer and 35k from winter sets.
On smaller sizes, and without additional sets of wheels, there is economical sense as there's no cost of mounting /balancing.

Yeah, Gorski Kotar can be unpredictable, and not only weather wise, hehe. Unfortunately, since the highway, most of the old restaurants' are closed now. Please looks deserted. Towns close to the Rijeka like Fuzine, Lokve have benefited from quick connection to the city because many go over weekends or for a short trips.
Further inland towards Karlovac there is nothing, last month we were in Zagreb (Alfa meet), on way back we exited in Karlovac with thought to have a meal. Nothing worked, and places that were open were empty. Not fond of eating lamb from two days ago.

Fortunately, I'm heading your old country soon, my wife is from Tuzla, and we have some business down there.
All I can think about that trip is food haha.
