none anymore, being my oil filter stock pile of Motorcraft FL400s's totals out at over 60 or so and than some(have afew NAPA 1516's also)!!!(same thing with motor oil with over 180qts of M1 on hand along with the 17 or so air filters--I'm good for awhile! almost forgot to mention the 10 extra Goodyear Viva 11 tires!!)

What are (if applicable) most manufacturers suggested self life of an oil filter's ADBV, adhesives, gasket... etc.?

Uh- Let's just say that I've been known to buy more than is practical. Most recently I bought a total of 11 Advance Auto Parts "Total Grip" oil filters in 3 trips to the store when they were on sale for $1.34 each- one for Mom's Mercury, and 10 for the Neon!

I buy them in cases of 12 for my fleet of cabs, but they get used up well within a year. If I was just buying for my personal car, I'd probably buy 2 at a time so I'd always have atleast 1 ready to go. Sometimes I get the urge to tinker with my cars in the middle of the night when nothing is open..lol!

How many oil filters do you buy at one time?

Currently, I have 2 Motorcraft FL820S and 3 Wix 51367 filters sitting on shelf waiting for use.

However, just before my recent oil change I discovered the new Amsoil EA filters. I was impressed by the technology behind them so I ordered one and installed it.

Needless to say, I am so impressed with the filter I may buy more. Motorcraft and Wix will continue to sit on the shelf and may never be used.

The point I'm getting at is that I will never buy more filters than I can use for the next 6 months because I believe the industry is on the brink of technological change. New, high-tech products are on the horizon, so I don't want to waste any more money on ineffective old technology.

Ill buy 10 of those denso one time fit filters then.

Make them Denso 10 times fit wouldn't they? =)

I usually buy 10 if mail order just to get discount, for local with coupon I buy 2-6, for ST, one at a time as the price is always the same.

I buy enough for one year for each vehicle/tractor (I have five). I might buy more if I found a SUPER deal, but who whats to be stuck with a bunch of old tech, or obsolete filter designs. Rarely is the old better than the new and I prefer to take advantage of advances in technology.. even if I have to switch brands. I always have one filter on hand.

When I see a sale or coupon, I usually buy 4 at a time. AdvanceAuto had the Buy 1 TotalGrip, get 1 free and I stocked up on Honda filters.

I'm up to 24 oil filters....but thats for 4 different cars.

I just bought 6 last week (4 Purolator Premium Plus' and 2 PureOne's) for 2 vehicles because I couldn't pass up Pep Boy's "deal". This added to a stash so large that I have to store it in 2 states.

Normally, when I buy filters, I'll buy 2 for each vehicle.

Good point, Iain. This is not a bad position to take on motor oil either. Just in the time that I've been here, there have been many evolutions in oil.

There are instances where a good buy is a good buy, though. Many of us have second vehicles (or 3rd and 4th) that already have their lives cast in stone ..so to speak. Aside from some 'feel good' factor, do I really need to have any "leading edge" element in my 92 Caravan w/ 175k on it ..or my son's Neon that travels 3.5 miles daily? I may use one ..but it would purely be for the fun of it and not for its sensible utility.

I just bought 18 -- nine from adiesel.com (Baldwins)... and nine from fleetfilter.com (Napa Golds).

These are for five vehicles in my household.... ie... Caravan, Tempo, Shadow, S-10 and Colorado.

The good stuff is always down south.

Like XD-3 synth?? Bring some over when you stop by. Some fellow BITOG member will thank you.

I only buy 2 or 3 at a time, because there is just too much great input from BITOG members for me to lock into one brand for too long.
What about the shelf life of a filter before the steel starts to " oxidize" " sitting in a non heated garrage ?
I grew up with Fram, then switched to Mobil 1, then oversized, Mobil 1 + now use Fleetguard LFE3487(synthetic) thanks to BITOG members.
