I had a lifetime alignement deal once from a local chain and I swear every time I took it in they never even looked at it, never fixed the problem. For alignment I now have two choice, an independent specialtist or the dealer, these chains IMO just do not have the expertise to do the job right,

I think the problem is for each shop is how often do they get there rack checked...I think it is the same for a balancing machine...
My Goodyear in Sunnyvale, CA gives the car back to me after they told me I need a camber kit, and an alignment way worst than before, take my $70, and tell me to wait until they get the parts back in.
I have proof that they give me the car back without having the alignment straight. Call the Goodyear franchise HQ, and they said they cannot do anything about it.
Independent isn't always better, my dad send a car in for a camber kit install and found out 4 years later that there is no camber kit on the car.
