There's often a timer so it either measures the oil several minutes after engine shutdown or just before engine startup as you turn the key.
So this is a low oil level light and not the typical low oil pressure light? Makes sense but I've never heard of one before.
I guess with people being less and less mechanicaly knowledgable these days it makes sense.
