How Low Can a Ford Escape Go?

Yep, it is a great little sensor. Was very common during the 80's and 90's. Both my Townie and Mustang have it.

Exactly. I don't know why it never caught on with other manufacturers....

Because they are worried about cost... Remember that if an Olive Packager removes only a few olives from each bottle hardly anyone notices but it saves the company millions... It's this kind of thinking that gets businesses into trouble!

My 1997 Monte Carlo definitely had it, not sure if my 2006 does or not, but I suspect the answer is yes--probably not a light, but rather a DIC message, though.

Well, he made it. It took 4 quarts of oil to get and keep it full over the course of the 375 mile round trip. I'd love to see that engine apart sometime if I could!

I'm with OverK1ll on the low oil light. I remember my mom's '84 Town Car had one in the little idiot light cluster on the left side of the dash. It would light up yellow. I never actually saw it light up with the engine running however. That's definitely a good thing. My '85 Cougar with the 302 didn't have it, just the oil pressure light. I guess it was a "premium" feature in Ford land.

Yup, the Mustang GT's had it, I don't believe the LX's did.

I remember when I first got my license, borrowing my Mom's 85 Corolla and pretending to be Senna and noticing a red flicker on the dash during some hard turns... It's the little oil can light, looked in the manual to see what it meant, no oil pressure, so we added 3 quarts and it went another 100,000km with no problems until my sister crashed it. Same oil light issue happened when she had an Escort GT but eventually that engine did die of something oil related but at ~300,000km

Make sure the oil & filter are changed. What about" Finest opperating road device".

Get an oil change before the trip and another one in 3k miles to flush out any sludge that may have formed.
