How long can I keep an oil sample before testing?

OK, I think this has been asked before, but I can't find anything using the search function. Maybe I searching with the wrong keywords.

Anyway, how long can I leave an oil sample laying around (sealed in the sample bottle) before it's not good for a used oil analysis?

I guess it would depend on where you have it "laying around."

Maybe in a garage that experiences temperature extremes (summer/winter) is not the way to go, in spite of the sample bottle being "sealed."

You might e-mail Blackstone or your favorite lab and ask them.

What's the purpose of having it "lay around" as opposed to sending it off for analysis? Unlike a good cabernet, I doubt the results will improve with age.

Haha..funny, but I was not letting it age like a fine wine. It just hasn't been at the top of my list of priorities of things to do and a couple of months have gone by now.

The test kits I have from Toromont-Cat say within 30 days from sampling. They also say that it should be stored in a cool dry dark place until it can be mailed but not in a fridge.
