And with the alligator clips scraping the terminals when you move stuff, you'll introduce electrical noise.
Just plug into the OBD port. That's a guaranteed by law 10 amp fuse. Cover the positive battery terminal with a rag or nitrile glove so it doesn't ground out between batteries.
