How important is color exterior/interior

Exterior and interior color are very important to me, for pretty much every car I've ever bought I specifically looked for a certain color (or factory ordered it that way) The one recent exception to that rule was when I was looking for a C5 Corvette back in the summer of 2004. I told everyone that was helping me look that I wanted "any color but black". Well wouldn't you know it, after searching for 6 weeks and not finding anything that fit my price range, I found a real good low mileage 98 at a good price, everything was perfect except it was black.

With my current Corvette I had to factory order it in order to get the color combo I wanted, as it's extremely rare. The Torch Red exterior color is not so rare (it's typically one of the top 3 colors on the Corvette) but getting it with a light gray interior is.

Wonder why most expensive luxo cars have tan, beige or cashmere interior?

Until you get into the upper trim levels, where even the headliner is black. Like a nice cocoon.

Yeah, both of my Mercedes have a tan/beige interior. I hate black, don't like it for exterior or interior. Made it a hard combo to find because it seems like 40% of the cars out there were either black or had black interiors.

I wouldnt buy white no matter what, and Id prefer to avoid black also. Not to say that I dont like the look of them both, but maintaining the look is not fun. I have red currently (bought used, not my 1st choice of color) but have been very happy with car. I dont mind red, but I am leaning towards a nice dark grey as a choice for next ride. I think I would avoid white at all cost, besides that, if the car is good, id likely let color slide.

I’ll never have another black car again. Mark my word! Way too hot in the summer here in the hottest city in the U.S. and every swirl and scratch in the paint stands out like a sore thumb. It also gets dirty too fast. I’d wash and wax it and make it look great, the next day it would look terrible. And that’s without rain, it doesn’t rain here.

I would love to get my hands on a C5 in the torch red ext/torch red interior combo, but those are extremely rare...I'll probably end up with a black interior as those seem to be the most common...

I like the black cherry color that is becoming more popular in cars. I'd consider black or white for the right price but no more silver for me.

For interior, I'd like the saddle color, like the color of a baseball mitt. Or red. BMW and Toyota have some really nice dark red interiors.


This! Guess I'm old but I miss color. Present car is a used beige Buick Encore. Really practical but boring color. Think the revised Encore has a black cherry color but very rare, at least in St. Louis--it probably does show dirt. I think that black cherry color has been introduced and pulled numerous times in the last twenty years. Like it, but for some reason it's never taken off. Some colors (such as gold, which I never liked) have disappeared in the last decade meaning color choices are going from sparse to non-existant.

I would only worry about color in extreme temperatures. I would hate to get in a car that is black on black in AZ.
Nothing else matters.

When I'm looking for a used car, it's third to mileage and condition. So pretty important. Since this is a sister thread, it's way more important than fuel efficiency.

I wouldn't buy a new car in a color I didn't like. I'm owning it for 10-20 years. The heck if I'm not happy with the color.

Don't really care that much with all the used cars I've owned. When it's time for a new car (it'll be a long time, plan to buy a new one when I pay my Escape off in 6 years) I'll make a point in picking a color I like. In the mean time most of the rest of the paint on the old Burb will probably look like the hood

I'm really not picky about color. I only buy used cars, so when I find a good car that's mechanically and cosmetically good, I'll buy it regardless of color.

If its not the color I want, I order it. Won't settle for something I don't really want. When I bought my Pilot I told the salesman what color exterior and interior I wanted and he said they did not have it and what would my second choice be. I said no second choice, so they ordered what I wanted and I just waited for it to come in. I am never in a hurry when spending a bunch of money.

My 10 years old 64k miles 1-owner Blue Toyota Yaris sedan AT base fetched a pretty good price, even with 1 accident on record....
comparative, the dealer's trade would have been $1,500-$2,500


Private Sale? You can get any amount, in fact you can even find the one buyer who will pay extra, but I'm just citing stats. Blue sells for less in the market overall. Really noticeable if you are selling a trucks, but it's there with cars too.

I'm not a fan of yellow or brown cars, anything else is acceptable, prefer good condition paintwork in a less preferable colour over my favourite colour in poorer condition paint.
I prefer darker interiors, kids + outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.

Autoglym Super Resin + Colinite worked great on my black car - this was a car that saw dozens of track days, no pampered show machine, this photo was at 115k miles, 12 or 13 years old.

I only buy White vehicles and have been doing that since 1977. For interior I am flexible. I have Coca Dune interior in the Tahoe.

It matters some to me, but its importance is variable. Depends on the vehicle/condition/price.

I prefer metallic blues, greens, and greys. I also like black, and sometimes burnt orange metallics or even the "Iris" color Ford used in the 90s. Second to those are colors I am okay with if I like the vehicle otherwise...white, red, beige, silver, brown, etc, basically common colors. Last would be colors I'd really have to think about, such as bright yellow or bright non-metallic orange.

I don't really like red. I generally buy used so color isn't that much of an issue to me.

I prefer flat non metallic colors.
Once the flatness is established I can deal with blue, gray, brown, sand, etc.

I love the colors from the 50's and 60's . Ford had some great colors on the Fiesta, like lime green and orange. Mostly I just want a color that I can spot in the parking lot.

I prefer only light colored exterior colors such as white or silver. Also, prefer dark colored interior colors such as charcoal and black.
