How good is Lucas?

Good info guys! jwrench.... also keep in mind that the cost of FP is around the same as Lucas. A little bird told me that Lucas will leave cc deposits long term due to the crappy quality of the base oils. I cannot personally verify this, but this has swayed me to the FP side (as has the endorsement of Mr. Dyson and Molekule).

I DO really like the fact that I can get Lucas from a local truck stop I pass everyday for $21 / gallon... just seems more convenient than mail order. That is why I am still kind of torn between the two.

How much is too high of a dose with Lucas and Neutra...What we want to know is it alright to use the Lucas at proper level or to use it every other tank fill. Will try the Fuel Power and will that be alright if the dose is to high. Will too high a dose affect oil analysis for any Injector cleaner...

I have used Lucas long enough to be reasonably sure that it doesn't leave any deposits in the engine. If anything, it keeps the engine cleaner. Whenever I remove sparkplugs, they have no deposits on them, just normal wear. As far as gas mileage, using Lucas will at least pay for itself in gas savings (about 5%). Plus I like the fact that it is also a fuel pump/injector lubricant. Maybe I should become a salesman for Lucas haha.

As a Mastertech I have seen and tried many cleaners and talked to tons of techs especially trying to correct injector spray patterns and stuck injectors mostly on GM Vortec V-8's and other gummed fuel components.

Instructors and personal experience has shown that Techron, BG 44K, Berryman B12 Chemtool which is the cheapest out there are the one of the few that actually work to relieve major issues. I am not saying others won't prevent problems, but most people are trying to solve problems not prevent them.

Most other chemicals smell like light aromatic naptha's or fuel oil(diesel fuel).

I think even Marvel Mystery oil added at regular intervals to fuel systems would do as much if not more than more expensive additives.

Spend your money wisely and add things like Chevron or even VP cleaner @ 8000mi. intervals rather than adding the other stuff all the time.

hey guys

i have tried all of the above but the one i find gets the best results in all my cars, i have only seen at walmart....
it is in a black bottle, with yellow print,
it claims to be a 3in1 product,
and says to use every 10,000kms...... the cost is $9.00 canadian.....
i will check this weekend, to see who makes it...

i use it on all may cars, and twice when i buy a used car..........

Look at it this way, when you open a bottle or pail of Gear lube, what do you smell? That sulfur-phosphorus smell is the smell of active EP ingredients providing protection to your gears.

Same goes for Neutra and FP and LC.

A 4 bottle box of Chevron Techron injector cleaner costs about $10 at Costco. I use it because our cars seem to drive better on Chevron gas, because it's cheap, and because it seems to work well enough.

I use Chevron (Caltex) exclusively, I like their advice that the concentrate is not needed if Chevron is used all the time.

First time I've seen a company not push a product if it is not needed. Chevron gets 10 outa 10 for that.

I use MMO on a regular basis but the other day I was at Walmart and they pulled it off the shelf..sales guy said that it was being relabled cause it shouldn't be used in new engines..must be an EPA thing...anyone know?

There is a thread on MMO and other additives being pulled , apparently for relabeling.

On June 1 there was an EPA requirement that additives with more than a few parts per million of sulphur be labeled that they cannot be used in 2007 model diesel engines.

The good news is that this means that finally we will have more high tech turbo diesel engines and Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel fuel.

If you've ever driven the direct injection turbo diesels in Europe, you know that 40 mpg to 50+ mpg is available from a mid size or larger vehicle in great driving car.

I just noticed that on the Lucas UCL MSDS that phosphorous oxides and sulfur oxides are part of the decomposition products. I'm a newb to this stuff, but it would seem that these are things that one would not want in their engine. Though it would appear that FP/LC and others have it. I can see using it in a gear train since there is no combustion, but an engine is a different story.

Would anybody care to clarify this?

Compare the smell of FP60 to that of PVC pipe cement and/or primer and you'll notice a distinct similarity. I'll be willing to bet there's a common ingredient in both.
