Ok so the wifes Buick has been Ecore design since they came out with it. My Camry filter from champion last time I checked still had steel center and old design. So how do they descide which filters get which design???

I think it may be volume. I was at Wal*Mart and forgot to nib in the ST section. The 3 1/2'' 3950 on my truck is conventional, blue button in the dome end. Somebody posted here a PF 52 Ecore. Could also be age, mine, just old stock. What are the numbers you use?

Could be the brand too. Anybody know if the other fat STP numbers are Eore?

I do not recall because I have been running Puraltor made AAP store brand filters for a while. I just know that the Camry's never had the Ecore but the wifes 3387A for the Buick went to it almost right away. The filter on here Buick is not that much bigger in terms of diameter then the one for my Car. I like the purolator ones better though because they are longer and bigger round then the modern ones my car calls for from all other filter brands. Purolator is still using an old filter design for my application which I like. I know the Walmart filters for my vechiles all use the Fram number system if that helps.

Depending on product, whether it's 3" or bigger in diameter.

labman, my ST3950 in my truck are E-core I will will cut it up when I am done with it soon.

I beleive that champ will eventually change all thier low end filters to ecore minus like k/n mobil etc.

Gary, Perhaps you think I couldn't identify the metal center tube and blue button bypass?

Same sad story at mine. What I have on my truck is an STP. As much as a Purolator and same poor design.

What WIX crosses the PF 1127 to has a bypass. If it has a bypass, I may try one. Haven't seen an 1177 in years.

Don't know about the fat filters. The ST for my GM (PF-52) has been Ecore for a long time. The STPs for this app have been Ecore almost as long, possible the same amount of time. But last week was the first time I ever saw a AC Delco PF-52 Ecore. I used one a year or so ago and it was the legacy design, not an Ecore. AC Delco must have just changed over to it at least in this application.
