My friend's 2004 Civic. She got the oil changed recently at someplace other than a Honda place, and now a light is flashing, saying "Maintenence Required". She called Honda and they told her that's just telling her it's oil change time. Is this something they have to reset, or can it be done without their interference--I mean assistance?
I'm not familiar with Honda's, is this a different light than a normal 'Check Engine" type of diagnostic code indicator?

Thanks

try this, works in my '03 civic.

"The maintenance required light in our dash is a reminder to bring the car in for scheduled maintenance (every 10,000 miles). The light will flash after start up for 10 seconds once you are 2000 miles from the car's scheduled maintenance. Once you pass the scheduled maintaince mark (every 10,000 miles) without having the maintenanced performed and/or the light reset by the dealer, it will remain on forever unless reset. To reset it yourself, press and hold down the odometer button as you start your car. Continue holding it for 10 seconds and the light will reset itself. You DO NOT have to take the car in for it to be reset."

supposedly it says in the manual also

What sxg6 said is what works for my wife's 2003 acura. Alternatively, just ask her to give you her manual. The procedure will be there.

in my GF's acura, the reset light button is under the dash, near the driver's right knee.

Yeah Mark, having women do things for themselves is what women want.
