How Do YOU Flush Your System?

Modern non-silicate or low-silicate coolants (especially premix with deionized water) really don't need anything other than a drain and fill. Maybe an air bleed if that's possible/practical. The might be stuff floating around in there, but that's rarely a problem. Sure this sounds rather odd to someone who used traditional Prestone and did a complete flush every year, but I haven't really heard of too many problems with modern cooling systems other than GM's various disasters with air in DexCool installations.

I know some people insist on burping the system, but if you do it yourself you can always monitor the level, wait for it to purge any trapped air within a few days, and top off the expansion tank. I kind of went crazy and now my overflow tank is a couple of inches over the maximum. It looks like after a week all the air is gone.

Never seen any evidence that premix with deionized water has any better performance than a concentrated AF and distilled water. The deionized vs distilled discussion had here often. Real world use, no significant difference. However, it does make for a nice sales pitch/promotion for the more expensive premixes, as shown in the linked thread with video and subsequent discussion.

I wasn't implying that it was better than mixing with low-mineral water. However, a lot of people would use high-mineral tap or well water no matter what, and that creates issues with scale. I'm just thinking that a premix takes that out of the equation, as long as it's just a simple drain and fill without trying to flush it.
 
Ok. Just took it that with the specific reference to DI water, there was some allusion to it being superior to an equivalent concentrate and distilled. It is true though that premixed AFs are the more idiot proof type. I'm not going out on a limb saying most who frequent this sub-forum don't need to be concerned about that.
 
1. Drain.
2. Remove/disconnect lower radiator hose
3. Disconnect upper radiator hose and remove thermostat.
4. Take garden hose and run through thermostat opening until water runs clean from lower rad hose/water pump inlet.
5. Take garden hose and run through radiator until water runs clean from lower rad hose/radiator outlet

You've now rinsed both the engine and radiator clean.

6. Reconnect lower rad hose.
7. Fill engine with coolant through thermostat housing until full and reinstall thermostat
(no big air pockets to purge when filled this way)
8. Fill radiator until full.

9. Run engine until thermostat opens and top off if needed.
