How do I paint this?

Did some body filler work on the lower part of my truck.
Sprayed some etching primer on bare metal parts, filler primer over body filler and used primer sealer on primed areas. Having someone paint this costs around $500 but all I need to do is lay color and clear.

The paint supply store here can load whatever you want in cans factory color etc.I would spray it on heavy try to blend it in then wet sand the whole area.

Go to a paint shop and get some of the oem color mixed up and put into a spray can. You can spray it on. But then I would find a shop to put some clear on it, or buy a gun to put the clear on. Clears that come in a spray can don't have the hardeners in them that a 2 part clear does so it won't be as hard as the oem clear and won't stand up to the elements as well.

A second hand pancake compressor. Know a good spray paint setup for a paint noob? I plan on repainting my truck in the future since there are clearcoat failure in some areas.

You can get by with a portable 20 gallon compressor alright just make sure its an oiled pump.
This set will do what you need. The touch up gun with the 1.0 tip and the regular with a 1.3 are great starter guns, both are HVLP which helps with smaller compressors and controls over spray while saving paint.

You will be truly amazed at what you can do with the touch up gun, it will do that area on your truck really nice with a lot of control. It blends nice and is really easy to control.

The large gun is a good all rounder the 1.3 is perfect for base coat/clear coat.
These are not the best guns but far from junk, you can get a nice paint job with these guns.
I use a DeVilbiss Millenium for base coat and it lays it down better than the SATA for my taste. The SATA is my clear gun.
Don't use your base/clear gun for primer,use the 1.8 tip for enamels. If you need a primer gun buy something cheap from HF or HD. Primer will ruin a good gun.

Dupont Chroma base is the best IMHO. Nason clear is a real sleeper. Nason is owned by Dupont but still produces its original clears. Contrary to internet babble it is not a cheap version of Chroma clear.
It is a 2 component clear and durable as they come, nice high gloss too. It lays down well.

When I worked at the shipyard, There were a few chemical barges built. The tanks were coated with an epoxy paint that was chemical proof. One summer, one of the painters would stroll out to his old Belair at lunch. He carried a little bucket and a 2" brush. It was white. with a black vinyl top. He painted the entire car over the course of the summer. Then after it had cured, he compounded it.

Actually Eastwood does have a two part in a spray can. I haven't tried it yet and its kind of expensive at $20, but then you don't have to buy a whole spray set up.

Agreed! Both are easy to shoot and give good results. The Nason clear is very forgiving.

For the bottom door portion (want to cutoff at the crease) do I scuff the whole entire bottom, spray the entire bottom with color and clear

or

scuff whole panel, spray color at repaired area (cutoff in the middle of the panel) and clear entire bottom.

For the clear I might check out the local paint store and buy 2-part and one of those Preval aerosol paint gun.

If doing it with a rattle can do the whole bottom of the door, its almost impossible to blend with rattle can.
If you want to try your hand at painting later i would just use a single stage paint for this job.
Auto paint sores can mix it up for you, it wont gloss like new clear but it may match the gloss on the truck now better. You can get a reasonable job out of it.

Preval sprayers don't do very well with clears. Clears need good atomization to lay down properly.
