How did you find/pick your mechanic?

A friend recommended my mechanic I liked the guy he seemed honest knows his stuff. We became great friends since we meet at least once a month for dinner or a Sunday breakfast at the diner. He's a big ford guy has a 69 mustang crazy fast and a all original big block 68 Torino

Can someone recommend a mechanic for routine motor oil and transmission fluid changes in the Glendale, CA area? My daughter doesn't do anything car related and tends to use Jiffy Lube or any "5 minute quick oil change" place. Thank you.

Recommendations from others in my town. I take my son's and daughter's vehicles to them. I've kept going back to my trusted shop for many years now because they've never done anything to make me distrust them. That said, I won't be taking either of my BMWs to them because that is not their specialty. There's a good independent BMW shop near my work that is well known for being honest and reasonable that I plan to use for anything my BMWs need.

My preferred mech is in my small town. I have a strong preference for "keep it local" for as much as I can do. Been with him for over 100k miles on our two cars. This was word of mouth recommendations from everyone I know here. I simply asked around. Everyone was quick to recommend. So, I decided to make him my guy. He has been great for all our needs. He and his crew are car enthusiasts. I {reluctantly} recommend him to others even though it makes it harder to get on his schedule.
Prior to this, I was at a big-name shop near where I work for convenience. The guy was a bit of a sheister, but, even a sheister will do good work if you show loyalty.

For the Lexus, the closest Lexus dealer is 85 miles away. So I go to a Toyota dealer 20 miles away for simple scheduled maintenance. A Lexus is just a fancy Toyota.
I started doing this too. It's not a huge difference in terms of what they charge but the Toyota dealership is closer and they've actually been pretty good with the relatively small things I've used them for in the past. I'm going to have the Toyota dealership do the spark plugs, transmission fluid, rear differential, and transfer case on the RX 350 at 60k miles.
