Honestly, officer, it was the Google's fault that I was speeding...

This is kind of intellectual property and technology that will keep the US competitive in the future.

I think he was joking about the title of the post.

Ah, okay. Makes sense.

I was imagining a screed against the irresponsibility of testing autonomous systems on public roads where lives were at stake.

Americans are now too stupid to be trusted with operating a motor-vehicle, so a electronic nanny will soothe all the emotional boo-boo's of having to manipulate steering gas and brake.

Motorcycles are now banned because they fall over when not moving, and voting decisions for elections will be left to a Cray computer that knows what's "best" for you. Resistance is futile and will result in a visit to a "re-education" center for corrective measures. Move along, nothing to see.

Finally some of the technology from Total Recall is showing up; now it just needs the annoying little talking robot 'driver' to make the package complete.

Speak for yourself rather than label everyone with the same blanket statement. I for one prefer not to be called "too stupid".

Sarcasm lost on you? It was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the increasing levels of coddling (and subsequent loss of personal responsibility) that is permeating many levels of society in America.

Actually, it was with reference to testing prototypes such as this on public roads with the people around you unknowing participants in the experiment.

Still it's been a pretty common thing to do over the years.

Just don't like it.

I think this is actually pretty cool. I've always admired google as a company. Forward thinking, open to all kinds of new ideas, very open as far as big companies go *Coughmicrosoftapplecough* and are willing to stand up for internet rights (that big country in asia where 90% of what we own is made in).

This could be good for going to the bar and having drinks and having the car drive you home. Of course the gov would mandate some new law that you you still have to be under the legal limit.
