Place the arrow before the first word of whatever text you want to copy, then depress and hold the left button on your mouse while moving your mouse to the end of the chosen text. You will see the text highlighted as you move the mouse. Once you get to the end of the chosen material, release the left button. The text will remain highlighted. Move the arrow over the highlighted area and press the right button on your mouse. A list will pop up, then move the arrow down the list to highlight the word "Copy". Click on this with your left button and this will then copy the area you had highlighted.
Then, go where you want to insert the info and click on the right button again. Go down the list until "Paste" is highlighted and click on it with the left button on your mouse. You should now see the text you highlighted before, but in the new location.

How about you highlight what you want, by clicking with the left button and dragging it across. Once it's highlighted blue, press Ctrl and c at the same time. Then come here and start a post, and press Ctrl and v at the same time.
As with everything else, mastery will only come with experience.

Oh, golly...
I learned the hard way by making my own disasters and then figuring out how to get back out of them. Sometimes it can be a rather convoluted process, but you'd be amazed what you learn in the process. Even if there are times you could quite easily tear your hair out in the process...
Then again, I could just be a sucker for punishment.

Copy and Paste 101?
Love Linux. Once selected, middle click in the target window, and it pastes. It also has Kilpper. Thus it only takes 3 clicks to bore everybody on the dog forums with http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx
