How can I get this driveshaft slip yoke to move?

Gotta dig some holes so I thought I would use this contraption I got with my old case tractor.

It's someone's idea. Looks to be a model-T rear end with an auger stuck on it.

The driveshaft is square and needs to move a couple of inches so that I can put it on the pto output shaft on the tractor to drive the auger.

I tried beating on it. Heat. Penetrating oil. Nothing works .

Things probably been sitting unused since before Kennedy was shot in Dallas.

Ideas? I spent most of the day messing with it.

Wow - you sure it was made for your tractor. How does it raise and lower?

I have put plenty of things on and off a PTO shaft just like that growing up and never had an issue a hammer wouldn't fix. If you spent half a day and used heat - are you sure its the right spline for the PTO?

If your sure - then maybe the PTO got beat up? See if you can ID whats holding it and file that part down a bit.

Could always put hands on a piece of square tubing that the main shaft will fit inside of and make a sleeve. Cut the shaft in half, drill some holes, use bolts or pins to make it completely removeable.
Thought about that. Kinda a last resort as I dont have anything

Ya it fit right on the old case eagle hitch the seller said it went with the tractor when we bought it and I have no reason to doubt them.. It raises and lowers with the 3 point. That part works well its the square tube inside the other tube that's stuck. I sprayed more pb on it a few minutes ago and will try again tomorrow

Take it off the digger. Chain one end to something solid and attach the other end to something else solid using a come along, winch, or preferably a chain hoist. Load it up with tension and then apply heat around the tube. It may move forcefully when it finally breaks free so be careful.

Clean as much rust off as you can and use lots of grease when you slip it back together. It must move freely or it will put far too much pressure on the gearbox bearings or the PTO bearings on the tractor. Usually once they come apart and are cleaned/lubes they don't fight you too hard.

I have mated several drive shafts to the PTO on my tractor. The two always easily slid together. The whole driveshaft setup is wrong. The two pieces should never have been welded together. They are supposed to be able to slide freely in and out. There should also be a shearing bolt to shear if a rock or root is hit. Even if you were able to slide it on, its current setup is a good way to destroy and twist the pto shaft.

Wire brush the splines on your PTO shaft. You can then apply a thin coating of grease on the splines. If the shaft does not easily slide on, it never will. The splines on the PTO and the drive shaft yoke are not compatible or are damaged. You should never have to hammer it on or apply any heat. Applying heat is a good way to destroy the PTO shaft seal.

What you're going to have to do is UNTWIST it. That shaft is too long and weak for the kind of torque involved.
Personally, I would cut off the outer tube and remake it.

Thats something I had not thought of. Thx. I got it to move about 1/2 inch this morning.

I dont have the ability to remake it. If I can't get it working I will just start soaking the ground and hand dig the holes.... something I absolutely hate doing.

Maybe drill a few small holes in the outer tube to get some penatrating oil in further down. Since you have it moving a bit, keep working it and it will free up. Once you've dug your holes it should come apart easily for a good cleaning and greasing.

since you got it to move half an inch, try the candle wax trick. heat the outer tube with your torch and press a paraffin candle against the seam. the wax will wick deep into the rust scale and lubricate it way better than standard penetrants. ;)
