How about mixing Redline D4 and MTL?

I have a 92 Mustang with a T-5. It is supposed to run ATF. I am currently using Redline D4 for fluid. I have a few quarts of MTL and I was thinking about mixing the 2 for a performance blend. Something like 1/3 MTL and 2/3 D4. Straight MTL is used for road racing applications but is too much for street use. I autocross and will eventually be open tracking my car so I thought a little MTL might be helpful.

How about having four different offerings so you DONT have to mix fluids?

What, Specialties Formulations? I've been away from the site too long. Once I use up all the stuff already on the shelf, I will become a regular customer of yours, boss. However, since I have 3 quarts of each already in my possession, what mixture would you recommend for my intended use?

Since you've responded to this thread, how about you give me your recommendations on which SF fluids to use in my T-5z, 8.8 rear(factory Tlok and 3.55s), and stroker 347 engine? 50%Street/50% autocross and some HPDE's mixed in.

BTW, I finally got around to trying your LC/Neutra/MMT fuel brew and it totally kicks butt. I was skeptical about "feeling" any difference, but the car seems to run far better than just one or the other.

You are da man!

I've got a T-5 in my '93 'Stang. I've run D4, MTL, Mobil 1 ATF and good ole dino ATF in it at one time or another.

I was in the fluid "test" mode a few years ago to find something that would minimize the slight grind going into 5th at high speed.

The only fluid(s) that made it all but disappear was the cheapo dino ATF and MTL. The syn ATF's made it worse. I tried friction modifer too. I realized that I didn't like spending all that time under the transmission chasing a slight grind.

I found MTL was the best, but shifting action is sluggish in very low temps until the fluid loosens up a bit (about 2 houses down the street is enough).

I wouldn't mix D4 and MTL; but I don't know if it would hurt it or not.

Nitrox,

Run the fluid you have purchased already and then try our stuff later. No need to waste it.

For the T-5, for daily driving the MTFGlide , for racing or mixed use, run the SynchroGlide .

For the diffy, one can use the HDS-5 75W90.

We don't have engine oils as yet, but I would start with a 10W30 synthetic and work with Terry Dyson to tweak.

Glad to hear the "MIX" made a difference. Are you getting better ET's, mph, or better acceleration in general?

Do you think mixing D4 and MTL is okay to do? If so what ratio?

As usual, MY car is sitting on jackstands getting a suspension change. I keep screwing with stuff. I need to stop and drive dammit.

I'm using the fuel mix in the wife's 02 Explorer. I have not done an objective mileage test, but just watching the gauge and mileage during long highway trips seems to show an improvement, but I know that's a lot of hooey just eyeballing it. I will say that acceleration seems better and the engine is running smoother than with just the FP. I don't run it in every tank, maybe every other. I made up 2 gallons, one for her and one for me, with some Neutra left over. I won't run straight Neutra or FP again.

I kind of like the fact that I can use the Neutra in the crankcase as well. I ran out of LC the other day and wanted to flush out a used lawn tractor. I'll just use the leftover Neutra.

For the engine, I am running Mobil 1 10w30 with the LC/132. I bought 2 jugs of the M1 when it was on sale at Walmart, so I'll run that until it's gone, then try something else, probably Schaeffers, which one I don't know.

"ATF is specified for shiftability only, not for longevity ... Our MTFGlide is an ATF viscosity fluid but has the EP/AW additive package of a GL4. Therefore, you don't have to mix anymore."

Yes, and even if you had no issues with MTL's formulation whatsoever, mixing it with an ATF gives you a diluted/compromised EP/AW package.

Best to go with 100% of an oil specifically formulated to be the right viscosity and coefficient of friction while having an additive package designed to protect meshed gears.

But I'm like you, Nitrox. I hate to waste oils I already have on hand.

Molakule, do you run the special foumulation 75w85 in your frontier transmission?

Yes, I have ran them all during testing but am currently using the MTL-P since it has been working so well in the winter and its the viscosity sepcified by Nissan.

The MTL-P is also closest in viscosity to the Honda MTL, BTW.

I also run the AutoGlide in the Nissan '03 PathFinder. Shifts are crisp and short. No hangning, no dealyed shifts.

Thanks again for the info. I'll go with the 1/3 2/3 combo next change.

Main reason I was thinking about the combo is that the South Florida heat probably thins things out more than elsewhere in the nation, and a little bit of heavier fluid might be a good thing.

Something like 1/3 MTL and 2/3 D4.

That's what I would try since you have it on hand. You want to stay as close to 7.5 cSt as possible, and the MTL will boost the AW additive levels.

See, here is what people don't realize: The ATF is specified for shiftability only, not for longevity.

Here is where I let people prove this to themselves:

check out the AW additive levels in MTL:

Now check out the additive levels in an ATF:

Our MTFGlide is an ATF viscosity fluid but has the EP/AW additive package of a GL4. Therefore, you don't have to mix anymore.

Yep, thats what i was refering to, the mtl-p.
I may have to get some for my 04 frontier.
