I'd do searches on the transmission for the new fusion and the old car!
Are they nearly the same?
Get the Transmission model number from the dealer or by searches, then run the number and see!
What problems reported by other folks?
What problems has www.Sonnax.com identified for either car?
Turns out several bad GM transmissions are related to bad Ford transmissions! But aren't interchangable.

Are you a "Ford guy"? I think the Fusion you'll inquiring about is assembled in Mexico, but the 2013+ comes from Michigan.
The older, Mexican made Fusions are known to be a reliable car. It's ashame more people didn't want a stick in the Focus.

I have been putting an eye to new cars, unfortuntaely, lack of stick will be the reason I won't get a Focus. Can't even get a hatch with a stick unless you get ST or RS.

I've heard some good things about them. If I was in the market for a replacement for my Focus, I'd seriously consider a V6 FWD version (personal preference).
One of the only downsides I've read are cheap-ish plastic interior parts. Not sure if that matters much to you or not.

Actually, many of them are still made in Mexico at Hermosillo. All of them in our fleet are made in Mexico through 2017 model year (around 30 total now). BIL's new one was also made in Mexico.
That being said, they have been good cars in general. We've got a batch from a few years ago with battery and parasitic draw issues, but everything else has ben good in our fleet usage. If I needed a car, I'd certainly be considering one.

I bought my 14 fusion new, and It has been fine so far. Of course, I only have 23k miles on it now. So not a real good test. Also it is An S version, not the more common SE model. Has a the 2.5 non turbo engine. I wanted the simplest version I could get as I am very old school. It is no performance vehicle, but does the trick for me, and gets good gas mileage. I don't think I have even turned the radio on more than once or twice since owning the car.

My mom has a 2010 fusion se with the 2.5L. We've had it a lil over 1.5 yrs and 10k. Its got 103k on it. She loves the car and its been pretty trouble free. When we bought it it needed brakes all the way around and had a bad VCG leak. I got $300 knocked off the price so i could do it at home. Only other thing i have done to it is the 4 lower control arms/ball joints. Now tht was a Nightmare but not 2 bad.

). I do all the maintenance. When the weather's above 70ish I can make 36-37mpg over a full tank, sometimes nearly 38 if it's all highway driving. It was a lease return that I bought at 19k so essentially everything but break-in is personal experience. I'd buy another for DD; it's a great appliance- works everytime you need it, but it will never stir your blood on the performance meter...

Gen I Ford Fusion V6 SE Edition with decent mileage is on my short list of cars to replace my Saab 9-5 2.3T. Rented one on business a few years ago and was blown away. Quick, fast and got great mileage. HUGE trunk and good ergonomics.
I thought that thing would give any car around a run from a stop light. I run quick cars including a big block 1970 A body. That Fusion was really impressive

My dad has had two fusions so far. Both automatic with the 4 cylinder. Zero issues. I am not a big Ford guy (check out my signature) but the fusion seems like a very reliable vehicle.

They seem to be a really good used car. IMO, Ford built these to compete with the Camry/Accord segment, but they're a lot less money used. Sedans aren't a hot commodity these days, so used buys can be a great deal.

Note the Fusion in my sig.. It's at 232,400 miles as of today, and I plan to keep it until at least 350,000, if not longer. My goal is 484,000. I put over 500 miles on it per week, in Phoenix, all year. Even with its advanced mileage, I would have no concerns taking it on a long-distance drive.
Lots on the road, so parts are readily available, proven track record, easy to work on.. and IMHO very reliable. What more could you want?
