House brand oil

Hello and I am wondering if house brand/private label oils are ok for any car; be it a daily driver, beater car, work/parts hauler, you get the idea. Case in point; have 3 friends that use advance auto conventional 5w30 oil in daily driver cars, and 3rd has a 01' dakota sport 2wd truck had 40k on it when he bought it, now has 198k on it, and he uses just 10w30 super tech oil and wix or purolator filters. I used Super Tech for one OCI, no problems, thinking of using 5w20 ST again honestly. What are your thoughts on this subject.

Its a good low cost oil, no need for very expensive oil in *most* cars.

You will be ok with store brand oil so long as it is meeting API and weight spec called out in your owners manual. As you have surmised, Super Tech oil will do you fine.

Hey again and thanks to both of you Hootbro, and LT4Vette. Yeah, the one friend is my neighbor, no real problems with his truck. I think his thinking of decent oil with good filter like WIX, or PUROLATOR is darn good idea. May get a Purolator filter when my last WIX is used up.

I think store brand oils are ok for normal everyday applications and won't cause the death of an engine. However, I am a stickler on a decent filter.

Hence my using a WIX/NAPA GOLD filter.

depends on which store brand you're using

i believe both AAP and SuperTech are made by Warren or Warren Performance

i think most of us here are find with either of those companies

I picked up a case of "Certified" 10-30 at Sams Club, IIRC, it was $15 or so. Perfect for the old beater my middle daughter is training to drive in.

Do yourself a favor and look at the new Mobil Super 5000 SN rated conventional oil ...$11.50 for a 5 qrt jug at Walmart with what many here are claiming is an extremely good add pack and the current "deal of conventional's" ...
