I've had my (first) Riding Lawn Mower for 5 Months now and it's great.
Of coarse I overly maintain it.

I made the mistake of NOT shutting 'off' the Ignition Key and accidently added 20 hours to the Hour-Meter.
An internet search shows they can not be reset.

I could unplug it for the next year, or
spend $30 and buy another / install & leave ignition key ON for 9.7 hours.

I know I could get something similar at less cost, but at this time in ownership, I'd rather not deviate from the Factory.

So, if anyone has an Hour-Meter, careful you don't make the same mistake.

You have new owner jitters. You're probably going to keep it so long, it won't matter. But if it bothers you, do what you suggested. Unplug the hour metrer for a year ( or two). Enjoy your ride!

Keep a log, you might make this mistake again.

When you get the kinks worked out you can run it up with the key on. Even 150 hours can be done in a week, just set a timer on your phone.

Just remember it the next time you service it then forget it after that. Or just service it early and forget it. Or just forget it. 20 hours isn't going to affect anything.

some can and some not.
Depends on brand and year.

Ins some cases, turning ignition key on and off 5 or 6 times in quick succession
will reset some hour meters.

The John Deere gators would do it. The bigger ones would run the battery down with the key on not running but the little ones would run forever just sitting there with the key on.

I just bought an hour meter for under $10 on ebay. I am going to put it on my snowblower just for the heck of it. All you have to do is wrap a wire around a spark plug. Buy one of these and keep it for your records.
