I have only been out of the HW heater game for 4 years...
Sticker shock.....
80 gallon Hybrid electric installed
Only $4500.
Even LP and small 40-50 gallon ones are crazy..installed.
Thankless are bad but cheaper than the hybrid.

80 gallon?

I built a modern concrete home and put $200 Rennai lpg gas heaters in 3 baths. The one we use all the time uses less than $10 worth of LPG/month.

Yeah you need to shop around. Those are rip off prices. I have heard of plumbers that charged 6k to install a water heater. I get them done all the time for under 1k. The Hybrid electric water heaters are more like 2.4k so the plumber basically wants 2k to install it.

Crazy..
5 years ago I had Sears install a 40 gallon electric complete for $550.
That was everything included.
I miss Sears. Called 9am and it was installed by 12

wow, bought a 50 gallon electric for around $400 a few years ago. Installed it myself in a couple of hours.
I got a quote for that too
$2025. Nuts
The 12 year was $2400.

What was the price on the regular electric for just the part?

my mom had a new 50 gal gas installed a few years ago, it took 2 guys to get the sediment filled old one out of the basement, so there’s that if you have a basement. Still doesn’t make it a $2k install though!

Home repair has become a complete sham in my area. You can't get anything done without paying absolutely crazy prices. I had a 40 gal quoted a few years ago $2400 installed. The tech said it was bad, but the only thing bad was the pressure relief valve. I learned how to solder copper pipe that year.

True
And I will remove the old one myself. They priced it that way.
The electric was $650. Itself.

Tankless need to know what your coldest incoming water temp is and gpm flow to pick the correct size. Also they take yearly maintenance to clean the waterside out with vinegar.
Here for those that can't do the flush or have a kit they charge $129. annual cleaning

I go into shock any time I talk to a plumber about ANY job these days. I know they have salaries, overhead, vehicles, insurance, and so on, but I really feel like I'm paying for someone's Bentley sometimes.

Bought an AO Smith 50 Gallon Gas water a couple years back from Lowes .
Installed it in the attic ,with my BILs help, $700

I have had to lower my prices back to the 90's rates due to increased foreign competition. Meaning they knocked off all of my stuff.

That said I think hvac and water heaters and the like are the new gold standard. Plus all the crap last only 10 years these days.

I agree with you. $2000 to install a water heater. DIY time.
